In what may have been the most anticipated episode of the 2024 MasterChef Australia season, beloved chef Nagi Maehashi - also known as RecipeTin Eats - made her guest judging appearance on Monday night. Known for her delicious meals that can be made quickly, Nagi's appearance in the cooking competition was met with major excitement from the contestants and the viewers at home.

Social media was quickly flooded with praise for the best-selling cookbook author, with people raving about her warmth and positivity. Nagi was also complimented on how diplomatic she was when tasting the contestant's dishes, which fans noticed was quite a contrast to the regular judges.

"Ok @masterchefau, more Nagi please," one viewer wrote on X.

However, among all of the love for the acclaimed cook, there was also plenty of disappointment that she had come solo and not with her faithful sidekick Dozer.

For the uninitiated, Dozer is Nagi's adorable 11-year-old golden retriever who serves as Chief Recipe Tester at RecipeTin Eats HQ. Nagi is so rarely seen without her lovable pup that fans couldn't help but feel the sting that he was absent from the MasterChef kitchen.

"Anyone else devastated that Dozer isn't here? 😭," one fan wrote on Reddit.

"We want Dozer!," added another.

On X, viewers were also sharing their disappointment with someone writing, "Nagi is a great cook & genuinely seems like a lovely person. But no Dozer? He's a star."

"I’m so excited to see Nagi but would love a Dozer cameo," a second person said.

"Can't wait! But where's Dozer??," another fan asked on Nagi's Instagram account.

"Home back in Sydney!!!❤️," Nagi replied.

Despite the disappointment that Dozer wasn't there, fans were appreciative of how sensitively Nagi handled the judging of the contestant's dishes - particularly Pezza and his overly sweet peanut chicken and Alex with her chicken that Andy described as "basic."

"Nagi is so lovely, can't bring herself to say anything negative. Pezza put half a litre of honey in that & it's 'a bit sweet for her tastes'", someone wrote on Reddit.

"That was such a kind and diplomatic comment to make when Alex already was well aware she’d messed up. Nagi is such a treasure," said another.
