"The mixture of live-action and the superlative [visual effects] are going to be something to behold," the actress raved to PEOPLE over the weekend
The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch is poised to deliver an ohana-sized helping of fan service.
Tia Carrere — who voiced Lilo's big sister Nani in the original 2002 animated film, and is set to appear in the live-action version next year — spoke to PEOPLE about her excitement for the upcoming movie on Saturday, Dec. 14, during Unforgettable: The 22nd Annual Asian American Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
"You're going to see people like me and Jason Scott Lee who were in the original, you just heard our voices," says the actress, 57." There's going to be Easter eggs [for] the people who saw it originally, and also the new kids that are coming up."
Carrere goes on to praise the "fantastic" and "awesome" newcomers playing Lilo (Maia Kealoha) and Nani (Sydney Agudong), adding, "And Zach Galifianakis, who's funny as hell."

Lilo & Stitch is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, and is based on the 2002 Disney animated film of the same name.
Kahiau Machado plays David Kawena, originally voiced by Lee, 58. Rounding out the cast are Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance and Amy Hill. Carrere plays Mrs. Kekoa, a social worker.
According to an official synopsis, Lilo & Stitch "tells a story of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction."
"With nosy social workers and pursuing aliens banging on the door, the two bond over a shared sense of family and win the day," the synopsis adds.

She also praises "wonderful director" Camp, saying, "If he touches the heart with this movie as much as he touches my heart in Marcel the Shell, I think we've got a winning combination."
"Aa comedy, a heartfelt groundedness in reality — I think it's going to be something special for the whole family," the Wayne's World actress adds.
Lilo & Stitch lands in theaters May 23, 2025.
