Olivia Rodrigo reveals why she's 'really happy' she fell through the stage in Melbourne
The pop star has shared details about a 'beautiful' moment in a Melbourne hospital after the incident.
Fans around the world were in shock last month when footage circulated online of Olivia Rodrigo falling through the stage at her concert in Melbourne. The 21-year-old pop star was performing in front of 14,000 fans at Rod Laver Arena when she suddenly fell through a hole that clearly wasn’t meant to be there.
Concertgoers gasped as she hit her arms on the stage trying to catch herself, before she recovered and told the crowd: “Oh my God! That was fun, I'm OK! Wow! Sometimes there is just a hole in the stage. That's alright!”
The Vampire hitmaker has since addressed the viral moment during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote the GUTS concert special on Netflix. While she said the incident is “pretty terrifying” to watch back, she revealed that she now feels thankful it happened to her after having a “beautiful” experience in the hospital.

“It was actually kind of a beautiful thing, and I'm really happy it happened in hindsight,” she detailed. “So I'd just been to the Philippines - that was my next stop, Australia, after the Philippines - and I was thinking about my family and my heritage and my relatives.
“I fell and I was like all shaken up and I went to the hospital after - nothing happened, but they just wanted to make sure I didn't have a concussion.”
Olivia went on to share that the nurse was a Filipino man with the same name as her grandpa, who passed away a few months ago.
“And so I was like, wow, that was him looking out for me making sure I didn't get hurt, and so I'm really happy it happened,” she said.
“That was your grandfather, it absolutely was,” Jimmy replied. “He was like, ‘I'll take care of you, Olivia. I'm so proud of you, you’re crushing it’.”
Coldplay's Chris Martin suffers similar incident in Melbourne
Olivia certainly wasn’t the only international star to suffer a stage malfunction in Melbourne recently, with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin also falling through the stage over the weekend. The 47-year-old dramatically fell through an open trap door on stage during the band’s fourth and final Melbourne date on their Music of the Spheres world tour on Sunday night.
The two incidents happened at different concert venues, with Olivia performing to around 15,000 fans at Rod Laver Arena and Coldplay performing to around 55,000 fans at Marvel Stadium. However, both stage falls coincidentally happened on the fourth and final night they were performing in Melbourne.
Olivia's major announcement
Olivia, who is half-Filipina, performed the biggest concert of her career last month when she played for 55,000 people at the Philippine Arena in Manila.
She shared a post on social media following the concert announcing that she would be donating all of the profits from her net ticket sales to Jhpiego, a global organisation that helps provide healthcare to women and girls in the Philippines.
“It was the most special show and the most meaningful trip. To say I’m grateful doesn’t even cut it! Mahal kita,” she wrote, which means ‘I love you’ in Filipino.

The Disney starlet wrapped up her global tour in Sydney two weeks ago after performing eight shows Down Under, all of which completely sold out.
“And that’s a wrap on the GUTS world tour! 95 shows, 22 countries and a few matching tattoos,” she posted on social media following the final Sydney concert.
“Words cannot describe how lucky I feel to have been able to travel all around the world playing these songs with the most extraordinary group of people. I'll never forget this experience and all the sweet memories we made on the road.”
