Don't tease, Kavinsky.

Noah Centineo said he wants to return to the genre that catapulted him to fame. "At some point, I would like to go back to romance," the actor, best known for his role as Peter Kavinsky in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before film franchise, told PEOPLE. "I don't know if it would be YA, but I do want to go back to romance."

The actor broke out for his role as popular jock Peter Kavinsky, the pretend boyfriend turned real boyfriend of Lana Condor's Lara Jean Covey, in the film trilogy based on Jenny Han's young adult novels of the same name. He recently reprised his role in season 2 of the spin-off series XO, Kitty, centered on younger Covey sister Kitty (Anna Cathcart) and her adventures at a boarding school in Seoul, South Korea.

Appearing towards the end of the season, Peter, now a college student at Stanford, visits Seoul for a lacrosse tournament. According to Centineo, the cameo came about due to serendipitous timing: he was already in Seoul to film season 2 of thriller series The Recruit, also streaming on Netflix. Producer Matt Kaplan called him up to gauge his interest in a cameo. "I said, 'Absolutely,'" said Centineo.

"I love Anna so much," added Centineo of his former costar. "I just support everything she's doing. She's such a hardworking actress and such a professional. I joke and say she was literally the most hardworking person, most prepared person, on all the films for To All the Boys. She deserves it all."

In a behind-the-scenes feature shared by Netflix's Tudum, Centineo said returning to his character was "scary, to be completely honest." He explained, "You reopen something that I did five years ago. It was very, very special, and you want to do it justice. You don't want to let anyone down." Centineo called the experience "surreal."

In the wake of saying goodbye to Peter Kavinsky, Centineo has largely appeared in the action thriller genre, including the action superhero movie Black Adam opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and The Recruit, which returns for season 2 on Jan. 30. He'll next appear in Alex Garland's A24 war drama Warfare, alongside an all-star cast that includes Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, and Cosmo Jarvis.
