No Good Deed Mystery Solved in Episode 8 — Will There Be a Season 2? Creator Liz Feldman Weighs In
After eight episodes of twists and turns, the whole truth finally comes into focus in No Good Deed‘s finale — but where can the dark comedy go from here?
Throughout the season, viewers had pieced together that Jacob’s sister Emily (played by Generation’s Chloe East) had shot and killed her brother after mistaking him for a burglar. In Episode 8, however, Lydia (Friends’ Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano) learn new details about their son’s death.

Through flashbacks, we find out Jacob had been sleeping with neighbor Margo (Dead to Me’s Linda Cardellini). But after things between them went awry, the teenager threatened to reveal the truth of their relationship to Margo’s husband (DC’s Stargirl‘s Luke Wilson). A scorned Jacob broke into Margo’s home to take back all the gifts he’d bestowed upon her — which were stolen from around the neighborhood — and Margo caught him. She chased him all the way home in an effort to dissuade him from revealing the truth of their relationship.
When Jacob finally arrived at his Derby Drive residence, Margo stood in the front yard and fired her gun just as he crossed the door’s threshold. Right at that moment, Emily also fired her gun, believing it was her bullet that killed her brother. Margo retreated, and no one ever knew she was there — until Paul’s brother Dennis (Rescue Me’s Denis Leary) finds the bullet among Jacob’s things in the Season 1 finale.
The episode ends by wrapping nearly everyone’s story in a tidy bow: Margo is arrested, Leslie and Sarah finally live in their dream home, Jacob’s murder is solved, Emily is relieved of all guilt, Lydia returns to the piano, and Mikey (Presumed Innocent’s O-T Fagbenle) accepts money from Carla’s (The Marvels‘ Teyonah Parris) estranged father to save their family from financial ruin.
After watching everything fall so neatly into place, Episode 8 was starting to feel an awful lot like a series finale, so TVLine asked creator Liz Feldman whether she even envisioned a sophomore run for the dark comedy. “I have some pretty fun plans for a Season 2,” she confirmed, though the series has yet to be officially renewed. “It’s pretty early, though. I still need to get in there and chat it all up with Netflix, but I have a really fun idea of where to take it.”
When asked whether Season 2 would follow the same cast of characters or a whole new collection of families, Feldman couldn’t share much. She could only say that should the show return, it “will continue to subvert expectations and take you to where you least expect to go.”
