Brenda Lee Fans Express Concern for 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree' Singer: This Is 'Elder Abuse'

Brenda Lee was recently rockin' around a Target store to check out her own vinyl—but some fans thought the outing may not have been as cheerful as it looked.

The 80-year-old singer, known for her hit holiday song "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," appeared in a new video to promote her vinyl record at Target, featuring a number of her classic Christmas recordings.

But after the video—which shows Lee pushing a shopping cart around a Target store and picking up a copy of her own vinyl—went viral on social media, some viewers were left feeling concerned for the holiday music legend.

A number of users online claimed that Lee was being made to film the video, with one person even boldly stating that the video looked like "elder abuse."

"them making her do all this should be considered elder abuse," that user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Someone else said Lee could "barely talk" in the clip, while another added that the video was "sad to look at."

But several users were in complete disagreement, with many people arguing that Lee "looks pretty happy" in the video, which shows her finding her vinyl on the shelves and bringing it to the registers to purchase it.

"she's clearly having fun," someone else insisted.

"I bet she looooves doing it tho," someone else chimed in, adding, "a lot of old ppl feel lonely and unseen so I bet it feels really good to know that there are ppl who care that she exists."

Another person tweeted, "she looks genuinely happy and joyful in the video to me! imagine you released a song decades ago and it’s still one of the biggest Christmas songs worldwide, now on a vinyl that you get to promote yourself years later!"

Lee was only 13 years old when she recorded "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," which released in 1958.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Lee's hit song had surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, making it the only holiday song by a female country artist to do so.
