Nikki Garcia files to divorce “DWTS” pro Artem Chigvintsev after his domestic violence arrest

The estranged couple were paired up when Garcia competed on the reality show in 2017.

Nikki Garcia is moving to end her marriage to Dancing With the Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev after two years.

The former WWE wrestler known as Nikki Bella filed to divorce Chigvintsev in Napa Valley, Calif., on Wednesday, according to online court records.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Garcia and Chigvintsev for comment.

The split comes less than two weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested at home on charges of corporal injury to spouse. He was subsequently released on $25,000 bail. Neither Chigvinstev, 42, nor Garcia, 40, has publicly spoken about the arrest.

A rep for Garcia confirmed the divorce news to PEOPLE and said she "continues to ask for privacy for her and her family at this time."

Garcia, who in her WWE days was one half of the Bella Twins, was paired up with Chigvintsev when she competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2017. At the time she was engaged to fellow wrestler John Cena, but they ended their relationship in July 2018.

Garcia and Chigvintsev revealed they were dating in early 2019. By November of that year, they were engaged. Their son, Matteo, was born in July 2020, and the couple married two years later.

They gushed about each other on social media on their anniversary just days before Chigvintsev's arrest, with him writing to Garcia, "You are my everything." She wrote about their "love story," alongside lyrics to "Can't Help Falling in Love with You."

EW has learned that Chigvinstev will not participate in the upcoming 33rd season of DWTS, with a source saying that there were never plans for him to do so.
