Natasha Bedingfield Was a Hit at Christian Siriano’s New York Fashion Week Celebration

“Best night ever,” Natasha Bedingfield declared, shortly after taking the stage at Christian Siriano’s afterparty at the Times Square Edition. The singer, who attended the designer’s show earlier in the day, had just performed two of her hit songs.

“The cool thing that’s happened for me is that a younger age group is really into my songs again, which is really fun,” said Bedingfield, who’s seen a resurgence in popularity for her 2004 hit “Unwritten” in the past year.

“Twenty years ago, when I first [started my career], there were some designers who wouldn’t dress me because they felt that I was plus size,” Bedingfield added, showing off her Siriano suit with white lapel and buttons and mesh details. “Christian, from Day One, just dresses everyone and makes them look their absolute best. And I think that’s why he’s so loved — apart from the fact that he’s an amazing person, too.”

“I dressed Natasha for the Grammys maybe 10 years ago. And we’ve been friends ever since,” said Siriano. “She came to one of my first fashion shows, and we’ve just kept in touch. And she’s amazing and incredible,” he added. “Especially now, everybody wants Y2K, everybody wants that world, which is fun. She went on tour, her songs are number one again. It’s so cool to see that.”

The designer pulled up a video he’d just recorded of the crowd singing along to “Unwritten,” already excited to relive the moment. “Everybody knows every song,” said Siriano. “She’s amazing. Everybody knows every word. Oh, she killed.

Guests included many of Siriano’s show guests like Harvey Guillén, Danielle Brooks, Tiffany Haddish, Julianne Hough and Leigh Lezark, as well as Coco Rocha, who closed out the runway show. The party was an opportunity for Siriano to celebrate his newest collection, which he summed up as “red and wild and sexy and all the things,” with friends before getting back to work. The rest of fashion week might still be unwritten for many of us, but not for Siriano.

“I gotta sell a lot of clothes tomorrow,” said the designer, who was hosting a private shopping event in his office the next morning. “This is the ugly truth of fashion, because in the morning I have to go and sell clothes to pay for everything that we just did.”
