Mum's shocking wedding dress story is the most savage thing on the internet right now
One mum has shocked the internet with a gripping tale of a dress debate gone horribly wrong.
Weddings can be great occasions to honour traditions - or even start new ones. Whether you choose to be walked down the aisle, toss a bouquet or wear a family heirloom as your 'something blue', there are plenty of sweet ways to include little rituals that have stood the test of time.
However, one mum has reached out to a Reddit group to ask if she's in the wrong for not wanting to partake in one particular tradition.
In a group labelled 'AITA' (Am I The A**hole?) the woman wrote "My (f45) daughter (f20) is getting married in a few months. She came to ask me about borrowing my wedding dress and I said absolutely no since it is my dress and I love it very much."
"What makes me probably the ah [a**hole] is that it is something many women have done and apparently it is a beautiful tradition and mothers are often happy to do it," she continued.
A treasured heirloom
The poster went on to explain that she had designed the dress herself and her late mother had then made it for her - and that it was the last piece she had that her mum had made.
The poster also explained that her daughter wouldn't just be borrowing the dress either but would need to considerably alter it as she is a size 14 and the dress is a size 4.

"Now she is angry telling everyone that I am a cold-hearted hag who hates her," the OP wrote. "My sister thinks a dress isn’t worth making a bride sad. I don’t know. I love my daughter to the moon and back but I don’t understand why she shouldn’t hear a no just because she’s getting married."
'Not the a**hole'
The mum received hundreds of comments of support from other Reddit users saying that the daughter was being unreasonable and that she should respect her mother's desire to keep the dress as it is.
"There is no way a size 4 dress can be made into a size 14," one person wrote. "She's going to have your dress destroyed, basically, and even if she was a perfect fit for the dress, it's YOURS and if you decide you're the only one who wears it, that's your decision."
"No is a complete sentence," another wrote. "You don't even owe her an explanation."
"Just wanted to say Nta [not the a**hole], another chimed in. "Why? Cuz this was a dress made by a mother given to a daughter. Just because you are a mother it does not take away you were a daughter. It is your dress, your memories, and your sentiments of a daughter/mother moment."
Other people tried to weigh in with possible solutions to the debacle such as offering the daughter something else sentimental to the mum's wedding day such as a veil or paying for a local seamstress to recreate the dress but in the daughter's size.
Plot twist
However, in a savage turn of events the mum took to Reddit again a few days later to share a shocking update.
In a new post titled 'I refused to give my wedding dress to my daughter. I found it ripped apart by my daughter’s dogs', the mum explained that she had spoken to her daughter about her reasons for not wanting to part with the dress and had suggested instead that they could meet up with the seamstress and make a similar dress and that she could help with the embroidery since it’s what takes time and patience.
"She agreed," the poster wrote. "Friday when I was out, my daughter went home to me. She has two dogs and they were with her.
"Anyway the dress was ruined. According to her, she didn’t see anything, she took out the dress to take pictures and she 'guess she left it out' and the dogs ripped it apart. I was shocked when I saw my dress in my bedroom ripped into pieces. I started sobbing but my daughter said that I was exaggerating like it was her fault when it wasn’t. She just shrugged me off and said to get help because I am being creepy. My husband asked her to leave."

The poster went on to reveal she had agreed to give her daughter the parts of the dress that were still intact so that she could use them to create her own gown.
Who let the dogs out?
While this turn of events seems almost a little too machiavellian to be true, the comments were flooded by fellow Reddit users who were positively outraged by the daughter's alleged actions.
"It's very doubtful that this was an accident," one person offered. "So her dogs just ripped a dress apart...and didn't damage anything else. Your daughter is a terrible person. I wouldn't give her anything."
Another added, "I'm betting the dogs have a 0% history of destroying anything at her daughter's house. If they did, why would you bring them. This is definitely the pos daughter's handiwork to get what she wanted. She would not have been given the remnants from me."
Many people also agreed that it seemed very convenient that the embroidered parts of the dress had survived the 'dog attack' so that the daughter could use them with one person quipping, "Damn, those dogs have uncanny accuracy."
