Miley Cyrus embraced the art of the soft launch as she subtly debuted two brand new tiny tattoos at the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5. The “Wrecking Ball” singer ensured she was the coolest star at the A-list celebration, thanks to the rock star eyeshadow and black-framed Chanel sunglasses she paired with a punk rock updo–and her rare awards show appearance was the perfect opportunity to take her new ink out for a spin on the red carpet for the first time.

Cyrus’s slinky Celine dress–which served drama from every angle with a plunging sequin-embellished cut-out design on the chest and an ultra-low back accentuated with bejeweled straps–gave fans a good look at the newest additions to her tattoo collection. Miley, who complemented her blush pink lip with a matching manicure, could be seen sporting a tattoo that read “SONGS” on her left thumb.

Meanwhile, as she turned to show off the daring cut of her nearly backless LBD, her Y2K-coded updo revealed a new black star design enhanced with shades of pink–nestled right below the arm of her Chanel sunglasses behind her right ear.

Cyrus hasn’t revealed exactly when she acquired the new ink, but tattoo artist Jamie Gene Lopez shared black-and-white photos on Instagram of the former Disney star getting the new designs at Joy Studio LA right before the weekend.

@mileycyrus thank you. New years tattoos for Miley 🙏,” he captioned the photos, which showed the Grammy award-winning artist wearing a black tank top, black jeans with a belt, and a bedazzled chain-link bracelet as she got the tattoos.

In an X (formerly Twitter) fan thread captioned "Miley Cyrus got new tattoos to celebrate the start of her new era," fans were quick to point out that the rhinestone-encrusted bracelet appeared to be from Cyrus’s Bangerz days. One also noticed that Cyrus also wore the bracelet when she got her finger tattoo done this past August.

Cyrus, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her song “Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl, hinted at new beginnings (and new creative projects in 2025) as she closed out 2024 with a personal Instagram post on December 23.

“It’s bittersweet saying goodbye to a year that has been so good to me, but I am looking forward to starting over again,” she wrote. “This is one of my favorite parts of not just the creative process but the way life has chosen to teach me.”

She continued, “In everything I do I like to go ALL the way. Give it ALL I’ve got. ALL for it to come to an end, move on and start anew. At times it can be a heartbreaking process but I’ve always known the pieces to come back together and create something beautiful.”
