Marisa Tomei Sweetly Reacts to “Spider-Man” Costars Zendaya and Tom Holland’s Engagement
After showing off a massive diamond ring at the 2025 Golden Globes over the weekend, a family source confirmed to PEOPLE that the ‘Dune’ star and Holland were engaged
Marisa Tomei is cheering on her newly engaged costars!
In a post to her Instagram Stories on Monday, Jan. 6, the Oscar winner, 60, celebrated news that Tom Holland popped the question to longtime girlfriend Zendaya, captioning a photo of the pair at the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, “Congrats you two, xoxo 😘.”
The festive post came hours after a family source confirmed to PEOPLE that the 28-year-old actor proposed to Zendaya, also 28, at one of her family’s houses over the holidays. TMZ was the first to report the news.
“Everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening,” a separate source told PEOPLE after the news broke. “He's always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.”
Tomei’s comments mirror similar ones she made last year about the pair of Hollywood lovebirds. During an appearance at Fan Expo 2024 in Toronto on Aug. 25, the My Cousin Vinny star told an audience member that her favorite part about playing Peter Parker’s Aunt May in the three most recent Spider-Man movies was getting the chance to see “Tom and Zendaya grow up and watching them fall in love.”

“They carry enormous, enormous star power, enormous power and they manage to be real people at the same time and just — they’re multitalented,” she continued.
Holland and Zendaya first met as costars while making 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Holland in the titular role, and Zendaya as his love interest MJ. While the pair sparked relationship rumors that year — a source told PEOPLE at the time that they were romantically linked but were “careful to keep it private” — they were adamant in public that they were merely close friends.
"We are like the best of friends,” the young actor told PEOPLE of his costar at the film’s premiere. “She's so great and amazing."

Fast forward to 2021, the pair finally confirmed their romance, spotted sharing a smooch inside a car in July. And two months later, they made it Instagram official: "My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when you're [sp] up xxx," Holland captioned a photo of them together. "Calling now♥️," Zendaya later replied.
