MAFS' Carina reveals why the brides kept Ryan's X-rated comment a secret
EXCLUSIVE: Carina Mirabile opens up about her relationship with Jacqui Burfoot during filming.
Married At First Sight’s Jacqui Burfoot was left blindsided during Wednesday night’s episode when she found out her partner Ryan Donnelly had been making X-rated comments about her. While Jacqui asserted to her fellow brides at the cocktail party that she and her Ryan hadn’t yet been intimate, he had told the grooms at an intimacy workshop that she is “amazing” at performing a particular sexual act.
“You shouldn’t be talking badly about me behind my back,” she told Ryan at the dinner table after he passed it off as ill-timed humour. “I’m feeling pretty humiliated and embarrassed. I really don’t think my sex life is relevant to this experiment.”

Jacqui has since taken to social media to address the incident and call out her co-stars for “gossiping” about Ryan’s comment rather than telling her in private ahead of the dinner party.
“The only thing on my mind right now - why has no one had the respect and decency to check in with me at this point? Everyone is gossiping like children and I'm humiliated,” she wrote.
“Men, I wish you stood up to that ‘locker room chat’ on the spot. Dave [Thomas Hand] thank you for realising that! Jamie [Marinos], I love you, but I wish came to me tonight as well. Next, as a matter of privacy and respect, I'd appreciate if this is dealt with in private. I feel ashamed and disappointed right now.”
Carina reveals why the brides didn't tell Jacqui
Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle following the dinner party, Carina Mirabile admits she didn’t feel comfortable speaking with Jacqui because they hadn’t yet formed a friendship.
“Obviously it's still early days in that environment and not only are you getting to know your partner, but you’re also meeting new people,” she explains. “It's kind of like the first couple of weeks of high school where you don't know anyone, you’re a little bit nervous, you’re not your familiar self with anything going on, and there's so many moving parts behind the scenes.
“I think the girls didn't want to step on anyone's toes or say anything because it was still early days, we were all just gauging the water, I guess.”
Carina adds that she wishes the women “came together as a collective” to tell Jacqui, but she also doesn’t know how that would have been received.
“It was quite difficult because Jacqui can be quite provocative in a way of voicing her truth and she can really shut you down. She’s good with her words, so I guess that was a little bit difficult too,” she details.
Jacqui says she felt 'humiliated' at the dinner party
Jacqui shared a follow-up post on her Instagram Stories on Thursday morning revealing that watching Ryan’s comment on TV was “worse than [she] ever thought it to be”.
“Tuesday night was the first time I saw and understood what he had actually said because nobody had the respect or decency to pull me aside in a private conversation where I wasn't humiliated in front of a room full of people,” she wrote.
“I wish one of the guys had just pulled me aside for a private chat to explain what was said, and maybe pulled Ryan aside to explain the issue in private instead of putting the issue onto me to deal with in front of everyone.”
Did Ryan ever apologise to Jacqui?
The outspoken bride went on to claim that she still hasn’t received an apology from Ryan for his “derogatory tone and intent of those comments”.
“His apologies were never remorseful, not sincere and were always justifications - like ‘it was just a joke’ or ‘you should take it as a compliment I feel comfortable joking around you like one of the boys’ or ‘I'm sorry’ with no specifies or understanding as to why he was apologising,” she continued.
