The Block host Scott Cam has revealed the right place, right time way he was scouted for TV and if his story is anything to go by, I guess we should all start spending more time at the pub. Appearing on Triple M's Mick & MG in the Morning, Scott told of how he was randomly scouted to do a screen test and tried to turn down the offer.

“I went to the pub every afternoon, as I told my wife ‘to clear the dust away’ but it was also a way to get work from other trades," he explained. "There was a producer in there with his girlfriend, and he saw me yapping away and I had the ute and the dog, and he said ‘would you do a screen test – I need a carpenter for a shoot’ and I said ‘nah mate that’s not my go’."

After turning it down, Scott thought that would be the end of that, but the producer had other ideas.

"He got the number off my ute and called me and asked me again the next day. I knocked him back, but my wife said ‘you should do that, it would be something different'," he said. "I’ve since been in the biz for 25 years.”

Thanks to the persistent producer and Scott's encouraging wife Ann, Scott made his way onto Backyard Blitz and the rest, well, is history.

Now Scott and Ann have been married for 30 years, raised three kids together, and it's believed Scott earns $1 million per year hosting The Block, with an estimated net worth of around $11 million. Not bad for a guy who just wanted a cold one down at the local pub!

While last year's season of The Block saw tension brew between cast members, an insider has toldYahoo Lifestyle that this year the drama revolves around the couples on the show, teasing that one partnership won't make it.

“There is more conflict between the teams than ever before this year and audiences are going to love guessing which couple is headed to the 'divorce court' by the time we see them at auction,” the insider said.

“Every couple will be seen in some type of conflict throughout the season. The criteria for this year’s cast was pretty much ‘couples that love to bicker’. Some couples’ love language is so unfiltered that you will wonder how they got together in the first place."

The insider went on to say the way the cast communicates with one another is "pretty horrific".

“This group of contestants are not coincidentally fighting on camera by mistake, casting would have picked up on that very early into the casting process,” our source confirms.

“It is very specific and extremely well executed, making each contestant compelling and exciting for viewers who want more than just building houses. Audiences will say they want more building but the creators know the wider audiences want to see people behaving badly, which you will see in spades.”
