Sunrise's Sam Mac reveals 'real reason' Chris Brown left Channel 10

The popular Channel 10 host has signed a new deal with Channel 7.

Fans were shocked on Thursday when news of celebrity vet Chris Brown’s move from Channel 10 to Channel 7 made headlines. The Bondi Vet star was a regular panellist on The Project as well as hosting one of their most popular reality TV shows I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

Now, Sunrise star Sam Mac has sledged the rival network and revealed the “real reason” his good friend Chris left the rival network. While chatting to hosts David ‘Kochie’ Koch and Natalie Barr on Thursday, the weatherman announced some exciting news.

“Next week, we [are going to] broadcast for the whole week from South Africa,” he said excitedly. “We are going back to South Africa, we haven’t been there for about three or four years!”

He added that he was most looking forward to staying in Nelson Mandela’s former home. “A big week next week on Sunrise,” he told the hosts.

Kochie and Nat were floored by the reveal, with Kochie saying: “No wonder you’ve lured your good mate Dr Chris Brown to Seven. He’s sort of envious of your job and what you do.”

Sam replied, saying it was “exciting” to have Chris on board at Seven and made a cheeky dig at their rival network.

“He heard about the per diems we get at Sunrise, and he was definitely straight on board,” the weatherman said, as graphics of $100 notes falling from the top of the video appeared.

“He was jumping, they don’t get that at 10!” he said, sending Kochie and Nat into stitches.

Chris Brown’s shock move hits Channel 10 hard

This comes after Chris Brown’s exit from Channel 10 sent fans into a spin. The next season of I'm a Celeb is rumoured to air in April, and it is believed Chris will still host the next season with the star saying he will join Seven when he is "back from the jungle".

A statement confirmed Chris will join the Seven Network in July. No details have yet been released of Chris' Channel 7 projects, however, the statement said it will be revealed later this year.

Chris was previously on the Seven Network when he started his career on Harry's Practice in 2003.

“We are very pleased to welcome Chris back to Seven. It’s been too long," Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said in the statement.

“Chris is one of the most popular and recognised people on Australian TV, bringing warmth, intelligence and a great sense of humour to everything he does. We can’t wait to have him on board and to announce the great new content he will star in.”

Chris said he "can't wait to sink [his] teeth into some exciting new projects".
