Kyle Sandilands has revealed the surprising truth about his $200 million deal with his radio co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson while hitting back at his ‘rival’ Ben Fordham.
It was reported in October that Kyle and Jackie O had secured a whopping $200 million 10-year deal with KIIS FM following months of negotiations.
The proposed deal, which would see their annual salaries increase from $5 million to $10 million until 2034, is said to be the biggest deal in Australian media history.
While the pair are yet to confirm they’ve signed a new contract, Kyle spoke about the deal for the very first time on Monday morning in response to 2GB’s Ben Fordham’s recent comments about his salary.
The Australian Idol judge revealed that the figure being reported about is actually “underquoted” and he and Jackie are set to sign a contract worth more than $200 million.
“You know how Jackie and I are in the middle of our big renewal of contracts?” he said. “You might have read in the newspapers some underquoted values. It’s never right.
“Even Ben Fordham was making comments, and this goes to show how little Ben Fordham knows about media. He said Kyle makes up the amount of money he’s on. He invents it and everyone thinks it’s real.
“Now Ben, let me just tell you, I’m not inventing the money. The money is real. This is what happens at a real radio network. I know how much he’s on, I helped him with his deal. He signed up for $1 million a year which is a lot of money, but nothing compared to what I earn.”
Kyle mentioned his salary again later in the show and confirmed that the reported $200 million figure is “actually less than we’re going to get”.
“What I’m doing is correcting the narrative of false news,” he said, while Jackie responded, “Who cares? This is a battle of the egos here”.
Kyle's brutal swipe at Ben
This comes just a few days after it was revealed that The Kyle and Jackie O Show had narrowly beaten Ben Fordham in the recent radio ratings.
Ben Fordham recorded a share of 16.2 per cent while Kyle and Jackie O had 16.3 per cent, making them Sydney’s number-one breakfast program for the fifth time this year.
Kyle took a brutal swipe at Ben live on-air on Thursday morning after receiving the results, saying: “If you want to know what happened to Ben Fordham, he is underneath us.
“It's like having sex with someone and they die. That's Ben. Ben is the dead person.”
Ben later hit back at the comments, telling Daily Mail he believes Kyle “sounds nervous” and is “probably stressed because of the competition”.
“I’ve read what he had to say about me and it sounds like he’s got a kinky obsession. It’s worrying and flattering at the same time,” he said.
“I’ve insisted we keep our relationship professional. He needs to understand boundaries.”
