Kyle and Jackie O's insane $200m deal with KIIS FM: What you need to know
The radio duo are making history with their new deal.
Radio duo Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have reportedly secured a whopping $200 million 10-year deal with KIIS FM following months of negotiations.
What you need to know
The new deal will see Kyle and Jackie O’s annual salaries increase from $5 million to $10 million until 2034.
The radio duo are tipped to broadcast their breakfast show in Melbourne for the first time ever as part of the deal, seemingly replacing the current breakfast show Jase & Lauren on KIIS 101.1.
Kyle and Jackie O first started working together in 2000 as co-hosts of 2Day FM’s national Hot30 Countdown.
In 2005 they moved to breakfast radio on Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM and quickly became Australia’s most listened to FM breakfast radio program, but in 2014 they jumped ship to rival network KIIS FM and took their listeners with them.
Kyle and Jackie O were rumoured to be in negotiations with 2Day FM to return to their former home before their deal with KIIS FM was locked in.
❗ It’s hard to believe, but…
Kyle and Jackie O’s new deal is said to be the biggest deal in Australian media history. While they’re each earning $10 million a year, 2GB’s Sydney breakfast host Ray Hadley is believed to be on a $3.5 million salary, while WSFM’s Amanda Keller is on $2.5 million and Carrie Bickmore is on $1.5 million with her national drive show on The Hit Network.
🗣️ What they said
Although Kyle and Jackie O are yet to confirm they’ve signed a new contract, Kyle has been vocal on his radio show about wanting to enter the Melbourne market, saying: “It doesn’t take a genius to realise how much money you would save if we just had the one big show everywhere.”
Brendan Fevola, who co-hosts Fifi, Fev and Nick on Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM in Melbourne, has previously said he doesn’t believe The Kyle & Jackie O Show would work in Melbourne, arguing: “That’s not the right DNA. That’s a Sydney show.”
His co-host Fifi Box added: “You should be in Melbourne when you're broadcasting to Melbourne.”
2Day FM’s current breakfast co-hosts Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, Erin Molan and Ed Kavalee are said to be “unsettled” by reports their network tried to bring back Kyle and Jackie O as the duo would have replaced their show.
⏭️ So what next?
Kyle and Jackie O are expected to formally announce their new deal in the coming weeks. Their current contract expires at the end of 2024, however, it’s reported that they could begin broadcasting in Melbourne early next year.
