Delta Goodrem divides fans over Melbourne Cup performance

"What hit has Delta Goodrem had in the last decade?"

Delta Goodrem divided her fans on Tuesday after performing at the Melbourne Cup.

The singer, 38, sang 'Born to Try', one of her biggest hits, during the performance, and while many loved it, some wished other artists were given the opportunity to perform.

"Like I really hate to rag on Aussie artists but seriously what hit has Delta Goodrem had in the last decade? 'Born to Try' came out in 2002," one user wrote. "These major sporting events are a GREAT opportunity to promote AND GIVE a platform to up and coming Aussie artists."

Someone else described it as a "snooze fest", with one adding, "Delta superglued to the piano as usual. Way to put everyone in the mood. If the mood was a solid 8 hours sleep."

Vogue Australia was forced to turn off and delete comments on a video of Delta, which showed her looking through her different Melbourne Cup outfits over the years.

One since-deleted comment read, "Dear @deltagoodrem as a long time fan from the community myself, I'm quite disappointed that you support and glamorise the Melbourne Cup."

They added, "Glorifying and promoting animal exploitation in 2023, we are better than this! #horseracingkills and I encourage everyone here with bit of empathy and kindness in them to really look into the Australian horse racing industry. If you're still choosing to support it, at least be informed about your choices... @horseracingkills documents the incidents every race."

"Well said," another user responded. "I am really disappointed that Delta chose this barbaric event to perform at. I always thought Delta came across as a highly empathetic woman. Why would you want your music associated with animal cruelty?"
