Lachlan Gillespie's emotional tribute to ex-wife Emma Watkins: 'A love felt thank you'

Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie has penned a poignant tribute to his ex-wife and former The Wiggles co-star Emma Watkins after her last performance with the group.

Last night, Emma took to the stage for her last performance with the group at the annual Carols in the Domain after announcing in October that she was farewelling The Wiggles.

"Tonight while we watch @carolsdomain 🎄I will be taking a moment to celebrate and reflect on the wiggly wonder that is @emma_wiggle," Lachy wrote on Instagram.

"We met in 2009 and have made a lifetime of memories in what has been a jam packed 12 years of friendship and fun 💛. Tonight, The Wiggles light up the stage with a new and exciting generation of wonderful wiggly friends and some really old bells (haha) as we take to the Domain.

"When I look over to Emma I am overcome with a wave of emotional happiness 🥲 For so many children and families all over the world, the girl with the bow in her hair will live on forever in their hearts including mine."

Lachlan then finished with a poem for Emma, which read:

"For all of our shows

For all of our songs

For all the years

The yellow bow belongs

To the girl named Emma

For everything you’ve done

The dances, the sign language

And the way that you sung

For all that comes next

You’ll thrive in all that you do

Lachlan and Emma tied the knot on the 9th of April 2016 after meeting while she was auditioning for children’s show Dorothy the Dinosaur, with her to-be husband playing the role of Captain Feathersword.

They married in 2016 in a lavish wedding at Hopewood House in Bowral, with Emma looking stunning in a long-sleeved gown by Suzanne Harward.

However, just two years later they announced they were parting ways, with fans left in shock over the news.

On year after their divorce Lachlan went public with his new girlfriend, Aussie ballerina Dana Stephensen.

In April 2020, Lachy announced Dana had proposed, writing on Instagram: “On Thursday night, Dana asked me to marry her at home under a fairy light sky and a very excited little boy in a beautiful bow tie.”

Dana also took to her Instagram account to gush over Lachy, saying he had actually proposed first but she wanted to ask him the ‘special question’ with her son by her side.

Since then, the pair have welcomed twin daughters into the world together, after keeping the pregnancy a secret right up unti Lottie and Lulu arrived.

Lachlan and Emma have remained friends, with Emma telling Stellar magazine in December last year that she predicted her ex-husband and Dana would be the perfect match.

"Dana and Lachy have a similar energy, and I said to a friend that they would be perfect together," she said.

"But she was in a relationship, so I didn't say anything to him."

Emma also commented on Lachy’s Instagram announcement of his engagement to Dana with three purple love heart emojis.
