When Kristen Bell and her family went to Denmark, she came up with a great way to keep her daughters entertained.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Sept. 19, the actress, 44, spoke about her recent trip to Denmark with husband Dax Shepard and their two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9. Bell shared that she and Shepard realized their hotel connected to Tivoli Gardens, a huge amusement park, which provided hours of entertainment for their girls.

"Our kids are of similar ages, but don't you find that going on vacation as a parent, it's not a vacation?" Bell asked Kimmel. "You're just watching your kids in a different city."

"It's worse than being at home," Kimmel joked.

Noting that it's because their kids have none of their routines or comforts, Bell shared that she'd figured out a new hack.

"The hack is when we went to Copenhagen, we stayed at this hotel that was right at Tivoli Gardens, which is a seven-acre theme park," Bell said. "Which apparently is maybe where Walt Disney got the idea for Disneyland."

"Anyway, the hotel opens up into the theme park and so we just were kind of like, 'Are we going to free-range parenting and roll the die here?'" she continued. "We let them wake up...they woke up at like 6:00 every morning. They scanned their bracelets to go outside. Didn't see them for seven hours. Just running around Copenhagen."

"And that was okay?" Kimmel asked.

"Apparently. They're both alive. We all returned home," Bell joked. "It was heaven. We just had coffee, we played Spades, and then around 3:00 we'd be like, 'Anybody see them?' And then one of them would run up and need a Band-Aid or whatever."

"And they were allowed on the rides without an adult?" Kimmel asked. "That seems like most of the rides have a thing...well that's here, maybe not over in Denmark."

"No, it's real loosey goosey over there," Bell said.

When speaking to PEOPLE back in May, the mom of two said it's important for her and Shepard to model healthy behavior for their kids in all regards, and revealed one household rule they'll never change.

"We always make up in front of them if anyone gets snarky or frustrated or fights, which we all do," she said. "We do not have the makeup, our conflict resolution, be behind closed doors.

She continued, "Even if at dinner, let's say, one of us is frustrated and is a little snarky and then we go to bed. We'll apologize to each other the next morning."

"Then we will apologize and make amends to each other in front of the kids so that they can see how conflict resolution actually happens," the actress shared.
