In what sometimes feels like the never-ending quest for kitchen organisation, Kmart's Flip Lock Food Containers have been a pantry staple for many Aussie home cooks. Priced at an affordable $4 each or $35 for a set of ten (and currently reduced to $2.50 and $25 respectively) they seem like a steal. However, a recent wave of social media posts has sparked a lively debate about their durability, with many users sharing their frustrating experiences.

One of the most vocal complaints came from a member of the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook group, who shared a picture of her canister with a broken lid. "So with my Kmart containers... all the lids are breaking," she lamented.

The post quickly garnered a slew of sympathetic responses from shoppers who have been plagued with the same issue.

"They just break. Sometimes they just break while no one is touching them. The product is faulty," one group member concurred.

Indeed, the consensus was clear among many commenters: "All mine did this too. Such a waste of money," and "Agreed, mine are all breaking too, I suppose you get what you pay for, cheap and nasty," reflected the sentiments of numerous frustrated shoppers.

"You have been ANKO'd" someone else laughed, referencing the brand name of the item.

Complaints continued to pour in across multiple threads related to the product in the group.

"All of mine did this within the first month of having them. So annoying," one user shared, while another simply said, "Into the bin with them."

Amidst the chorus of complaints, another user suggested this was not an isolated incident, stating, "I had about a quarter of mine break, so I got rid of them. They are horrible."

"I stopped buying them because it happened so often," offered someone else.

In response to the ongoing dissatisfaction, many members offered practical advice, suggesting recourse through Kmart's return policy.

"Take them back if you still have your receipt!" one advised.

The prevailing sentiment that "You get what you pay for" resonated throughout the discussion, highlighting the disappointment felt by many shoppers.

Adding a twist to the discussion, someone posted a video showing that the lid could disassemble for washing, suggesting the lids weren't actually breaking, but instead are designed to come apart for cleaning.

"The handle is meant to come off for washing/assembling," she explained. "That's why there's a groove where the handle slides back on."

"That's not what they meant," another user replied, showing that their lid and handle were actually broken. "Stop gaslighting me."

Interestingly though, not all feedback was negative. Some defended the product, pointing out that their containers had held up just fine.

"It hasn't happened to any of mine," one user stated. Another suggested that the breakages might be due to user error: "If they break, it's from misuse, dropping, travel or such."

"I've got a cupboard full and not one has broken in the three years I've had them. I only wipe the lids over with a wet cloth. I've never submerged them in water. Wonder if that's why."

Yahoo Lifestyle contacted Kmart for a comment regarding reports of lids breaking on their containers. While a spokesperson did not directly address this issue, they stated, "As always we would encourage any customers who experience an issue with a product to reach out via our customer care team so that they can investigate."
