Kmart shopper's 'fantastic' $8 decor hack using surprising item: 'Absolutely fabulous'
One Kmart shopper has been wow-ing her followers with a simple yet genius home transformation.
Kmart is fast becoming the first port of call for shoppers looking for affordable fashion dupes, skincare products or home items that can make their lives easier. The budget-friendly retailer has been having such a renaissance of late that social media users have affectionately nicknamed it #Slaymart - and we love to see it.
Taking to a variety of social media platforms, savvy shoppers love to share their latest finds or clever hacks with other Kmart fans - like the Facebook group Kmart Hacks and Decor. This is where one QLD mum has blown fellow shoppers away with a simple and affordable hack that has transformed her kitchen stairs from 'drab to fab.'
"I used this $8 quilt cover to create a faux tiles look on our stairs," the woman named JoJo shared in the group, along with a photo of the stairs leading into her kitchen and the quilt in question.
The post was met with plenty of compliments with one person saying it was 'absolutely fabulous' and others saying how clever and creative it was.

"That looks really cool!" one person enthused.
"Looks fantastic," another added.
"Well done!! It looks great," said another.
Over on TikTok, where JoJo shared a step-by-step video of how she achieved the hack, people were just as complimentary.
"Watch me turn this $8 quilt cover into tiles," JoJo begins. "Just use the Mod Podge straight onto the tiles...stuck it on smoothed it out."
She continues, "I put another coat of Mod Podge over the top as I always do just to seal it in. And then once it's dry just cutting the edges away pretty easy because there's the tile line is right there. So I just went along with that. And then I just went over with some glossy lacquer over the top just to make them really tile-like"
"That looks awesome, I cover my tiles with contact but I love this," one person wrote.
"You are so clever," another person praised.
"This should be pretty renter friendly too cos you could definitely peel that all off if you wanted to," someone else added.
And for the followers who had more practical concerns on their minds, JoJo had the answers. For the enquiring minds who wanted to know how she planned to clean the stairs now, she replied: "It is sealed with one layer of mod podge and 2 layers of lacquer. This makes it water proof and wipeable."
