From using a bathroom caddy in the kitchen to making a birthday gift out of a tackle box, Kmart shoppers love to be inventive with products from the retail store. Taking to a popular Facebook group this week, one social media user has shared their DIY hack for creating a side table that’s both stylish and practical.

The woman posted a photo showing how she made her own unique piece of furniture by combining Kmart’s $20 38cm Linear Plastic Pot and $16 Large Acacia Round Serving Tray. She placed the tray neatly on top of the pot - which comes in both sage and white - and displayed a diffuser and plant on top.

Not only did the side table look gorgeous in her home, but it also functioned as storage for her blankets and throws.

Other shoppers took to the comments to praise the ingenious hack, with one person writing: “Nice, I’ve been wanting to do this too as a little side table.”

“Love this! Does the board just fit on top? Did you need to glue it?” someone else asked, to which the poster replied, “It just sits on top nicely, don’t need glue etc as I wanted to put blankets in it”.

However, another user said they tried the hack themselves and decided to drill pieces of wood into the bottom of the tray so it was more sturdy inside the pot.

“I did this because I have blankets in mine, and if it was bumped the tray fell in because the pot is flexible. My coffee ended up on my blankets,” they shared.

The nifty side table hack has also been shared on TikTok, with one video from pro-cleaner Ange McKenzie (@_ange_mckenzie_) hitting almost 400,000 views.

“If you’re sitting front and centre on the hidden storage train like I am, then this is for you,” she says in the clip. “I headed into Kmart, grabbed a large white planter and then went into kitchenwares, grabbed a tray - not a lazy Susan - and flipped it over.

“You could store kids toys, dogs toys, blankets, whatever!”

Followers described the hack as “so cute” and “so clever”, with many admitting that they were inspired to try it out for themselves.

“The only hack that’s actually worthwhile!” one person declared, while another added, “That looks so freaking good! Simple but effective”.

“Ooooooh that would be good to hide toys!” someone else suggested, followed by a different user who said, “Would make a quick, easy & neat bedside table too”.

“This app is keeping me poor 😂 I love this idea,” another fan commented.
