Social media users think the woman's coffee table dupe looks better than the more expensive version

An Aussie woman has wowed with her DIY home decor project, transforming budget Kmart side tables into a stunning dupe of a higher-priced coffee table.

"Our new house needed a bigger coffee table," she explained, "we were looking at one similar at Harvey Norman that was expensive for a coffee table." Luckily, her resourceful husband was up for the challenge of crafting their very own version at a fraction of the cost.

Despite the hefty price tag of $1499 for the coffee table they had their eye on, they found a way to bring their vision to life for roughly $100, using two ribbed side tables from Kmart and wood and supplies purchased from Bunnings.

Elaborating on the process, she explained they used $50 worth of thick plywood and cut the curves for the tabletop themselves, before nailing everything together and filling the remaining holes.

The group members couldn't help but shower praise on her finished product.

"Wow, fabulous work, looks amazing," one group member wrote.

Other group members chimed in, sharing their own successful DIY projects where they used the Kmart ribbed side tables as coffee table legs with similar success.

"Same in our house," one person said, sharing a photo of their own DIY coffee table. Like the original poster, they used Kmart side tables as the base, then cut and painted the top themselves, using Bunnings plywood for the tabletop.

"Very impressive," praised another group member, admiring the collection of DIY projects.
