Kmart fans blown away by super-sized Aussie store: 'Obsessed'

Devoted Kmart shoppers are just discovering a unique three-storey Kmart in the heart of Melbourne.

The flagship store opened at the height of the Covid lockdowns in 2021 so didn't receive the fanfare a shop of that magnitude normally would.

However, shoppers are now catching up and are thrilled to find such a large Kmart in the CBD.

"3 STOREY KMART!!! THIS IS AT THE MELBOURNE CBD STORE AT BOURKE ST!!! I AM OBSESSED!!!" Islah Palmer wrote on her TikTok video showing viewers around the store.

One lady spoke for many Kmart fans when she wrote: "Please say it’s 24hr!"

Other shoppers around the country hoped it would mean that they would have one soon too.

"They need a Kmart in the Sydney CBD too," one user wrote.

The new store is unique as far as Kmart goes with the Melbourne CBD being the first store to utilise the latest technology, such as the new graphics suite, to inspire shoppers and make the shopping experience easier and more enjoyable.

"Kmart Melbourne CBD marked a brand-new concept for us, as our very first three-level store," Kmart CEO John Gualtieri said.

"The store has over 5000 square metres for customers to enjoy, with more space for them to shop the everyday products they love, with over 170 dedicated Kmart team members as well.

"The store creates an elevated experience designed specifically for the city shopper, with additional space and split levels allowing us to experiment with design innovations including digital interactivity for a better customer experience," Mr Gualtieri added.

Even though shoppers have only just discovered the store, it's already won an award, with the retail giant picking up the 2022 award for Store Design of the Year (Large) - Australia!
