Karl Stefanovic slammed as Aussies rage over Paris Olympics coverage: 'Beyond cringe'

If you were one of those people who woke in the middle of the night to proudly watch the Aussies march through the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, there's a chance you may be feeling disgruntled this morning. Many Aussies have taken to social media to slam Channel Nine's coverage of the Opening Ceremony, while also complaining about host Karl Stefanovic.

With Australia being the third-last nation to appear, fans who stayed glued to their TVs throughout the early hours of the morning were left unhappy with Nine's treatment of the Opening Ceremony as well as being unimpressed with Karl Stefanovic's commentary.

From being dubbed 'horrific' to listen to, and with many begging him to 'shut up', fans didn't mince their words when it came to slamming Karl over his hosting duties.

From Karl's commentary about the weather, to people saying he was talking over the most important and entertaining parts of the ceremony, Channel Nine's coverage didn't win over many fans.

"Can someone shut up Karl Stefanovic? It's raining, we get it. You're a pathetic broadcast," one person complained. "Why the f**k would you have Karl Stefanovic as a host for the Opening Ceremony? Todd Woodbridge by himself would have been perfect," another pointed out.

"For f**ks sake channel 9, give us the option of no commentary," another person ranted.

Others labelled some of Karl's commentary extremely cringe, especially when trying to compare Australian places to Europe.

"Karl Stefanovic saying 'You can almost hear Lygon St from here' when Italy appeared on screen," one person tweeted. "As Ride on Time by Black Box plays, a Channel 9 commentator says it takes him back to Cairns. Cringe much?" another said.

The same person then tweeted again, saying, "The Channel 9 commentary is so bad, beyond cringe, I wonder it's been beset by technical difficulties beyond Karl Stefanovic's personality?"

"You don’t know how much you miss Bruce until he’s gone," another person said, referencing Bruce McAvaney.

Meanwhile, other views complained about not being able to tune into the coverage at all.

"All channel 9 stations have conveniently vanished from my TV and refuse to scan either automatically or manually just in time for the Olympics. Guess I’ll be finding any other way to watch than the useless Channel 9," one person ranted.
