Karl Stefanovic's cheeky quip on plans to leave Today: 'Spreading my wings'

Karl Stefanovic may be ready to leave the Today Show after appearing in the new Stan original series C*A*U*G*H*T as himself.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle on the blue carpet at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday night, Karl joked that he was ready to 'spread his wings' and move into acting.

"It's like an intruder playing an intruder, playing an intruder, playing myself, you know what I'm saying?" Karl joked about his appearance in the show.

When asked if this was his transition into acting, Karl was quick to respond, "It is, and it's something that I've been after for a long time, I've been working really hard towards, and I feel like I've got to the level now – you know, first [series] out, Sean Penn, bang, bang.

"I know that he was a little bit nervous about meeting me and stuff, but he's relaxed with me now, and so I think we're going to do a couple of films together in LA, and maybe in Ukraine, something really heavy, and then I'll transition back to comedy, because he said to me I could do anything."

The presenter continued, sharing more of his future plans, "So, I'm really looking forward to really spreading my wings, leaving the Today Show, and becoming a fully fledged film actor in Hollywood."

He added that the new career would suit his "personalities".
