“Mean Girls” Star Jonathan Bennett Shares His Surprising Definition of What Sexy Looks Like in His Forties (Exclusive)

Jonathan Bennett is embracing his sexy at 43.

Bennett, who stars as Danny in Hallmark+'s rom-com trilogy, The Groomsmen and co-created and hosts the upcoming reality competition series Finding Mr. Christmas, shared with PEOPLE his definition of "sexy" at the PEOPLE + Hallmark's countdown to Sexiest Man Alive event on Thursday, Oct. 3.

"I think sexy is just like when you get to that age — I know this is so dumb — but when you get to the age where your friends are like, 'Hey, we're going to go to dinner and then go out and do this thing tomorrow. Do you want to go?' And you're just like, 'No, I don't. I'm tired. I want to stay home and that sounds like a horrible idea,' " Bennett explained.

He elaborated: "When you get to the point of your life where you just know who you are, that's sexy."

In July, the out Mean Girls star spoke with PEOPLE about the importance of representation during San Diego Comic-Con, noting The Groomsmen is "the first time we've had a gay wedding on Hallmark as the lead storyline."

"And that's a huge move for the gay community so they can see themselves represented in these stories," he added.

According to Hallmark's official description, the three Groomsmen movies will follow "the lives and romantic relationships of three best friends of different backgrounds, cultures and sexual orientations — Pete (B.J. Britt), a kind-hearted pediatrician with a penchant for planning; Danny (Bennett), an ex-jock with a heart of gold; and Jackson (Tyler Hynes), the stylish and charming social media agent — as they each find love and wedding bliss in picturesque locations Greece, Italy and Bulgaria."

Bennett and Hynes are also executive producers on the movies, which are directed by Ron Oliver.

The Groomsmen: First Look debuts on Oct. 17, followed by The Groomsmen: Second Chances on Oct. 24 and The Groomsmen: The Last Dance on Oct. 31, all on Hallmark+.
