John Amos' Daughter Shannon Reveals She Learned of Her Father's Death 'Through the Media'

The late John Amos' daughter Shannon, who has been at odds with her brother, K.C., for over a year as the two fought over their father's healthcare, has dropped a new bombshell amid the poisonous familial battle, revealing that she did not know her father had died more than six weeks ago, on Aug. 21, until the rest of the world learned of his death on Oct. 1.

The film producer took to Instagram with a sweet video of her with her father to honor him, writing, "I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st. We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."

She continued, "This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free. My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.#johnamos."

K.C. announced his death, which he attributed to natural causes, in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

Shannon has been very vocal ever since her father was hospitalized last summer, claiming he was allegedly being taken advantage of by a "trusted caregiver." Amos later countered that Shannon was the one to take "advantage" of him and her brother was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her. But Shannon persisted, eventually getting the Los Angeles Police Department to launch a formal investigation into his health and well-being in March 2024.

However, investigators quickly closed the case, attributing it to ongoing family disputes when they couldn't find enough evidence of Shannon's claims. Amos said at the time that he and K.C. were working on a docuseries that would "shed light on the real truth as to the motives of those who have painted a false narrative..." but it's unclear what the status of that project was at the time of his death.

Fans rallied behind Shannon, with one replying, "We are behind you physically and spiritually Shannon. I’m so sorry for your loss and the way this was handled. Love you and I’m here for you. ♥️." Many echoed her desire for answers following the last year of very public back and forth between the siblings when it came to their dad's health and well-being.
