Jingle All the Way child star's tragic past revealed: 'Very difficult'

Jake Lloyd became a beloved child star when he appeared alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1996 Christmas movie Jingle All the Way.

He was just seven years old when he played Jamie Langston, a boy who just wanted to get his hands on a Turbo Man action figure, which his father forgot to buy and is searching for last minute before his wife discovers his faux pas.

The now 33-year-old went on to star in Apollo 11 and took on the role of young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999.

His last acting role was in 2001 before the star quit the industry after he experienced bullying from his peers.

"Other children were really mean to me," he said, according to the Daily Mail in a 2012 article.

"They would make the sound of the light saber every time they saw me. It was totally mad."

Following his acting stint, the star found himself in trouble when he was arrested in 2015.

TMZ reported he ploughed his car into trees after he lost control during a car chase. He was arrested for reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest and driving without a licence, the publication claimed.

In a statement released to Geek News Now in 2020, his mum Lisa Lloyd said he had been seeking treatment in a psychiatric facility since 2016 but had moved to a residence close by to relatives.

She said he was released to the facility following his arrest after 10 months behind bars, with schizophrenia cited as the reason.

Following his admission to the facility, his younger sister Madison died in her sleep at the age of 26 in 2018.

"Jake has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but unfortunately he also has a symptom called anosognosia which causes a lack of insight into his illness," his mother said in the 2020 statement.

"This only adds to the struggle he faces, which has been very difficult after the tragic loss of his younger sister, Madison."

She added he was "still a kind and caring person" and the family hoped to have him back to his "fun and entertaining self as soon as possible".

"Jake will continue to make progress with the love and support you continue to show," the statement said.

There has been no update on his condition since his mother's statement.
