Neighbours star shocks with unrecognisable transformation

A popular Neighbours star has shocked fans after his co-star shared a photo where he is barely recognisable.

Stefan Dennis, who played villainous businessman Paul Robinson on the show, posed in a photo posted on Instagram with fan favourite Alan Fletcher, who played Dr Karl Kennedy, at Dog on a Tuckerbox near Gundagai in NSW.

Fans however would be forgiven if they didn't recognise Stefan, with the star rocking a completely new look.

Wearing aviator sunglasses, the star had traded in his groomed short locks for a shaggy grey haircut and grey stubble goatee.

Many commented on the snap expressing surprise at how different the Neighbours actor looked.

"That definitely does not look like Paul Robinson!!!" one fan wrote.

"Paul are you in there," another said.

"Loving Stefan’s new look," a third added.

Others took the transformation as an opportunity to joke about new storylines Paul Robinson could have with Stefan's new look.

"I'd proper love it if Paul came back to Neighbours all chilled out with floppy hair and a beard," a comment read.

"He'd been on a yoga and meditation retreat and 'found himself'," another suggested.

"This deserves to be a Neighbours-inspired episode," a third added.

Stefan appeared in the Aussie soap as Paul Robinson from 1985 to 1993 before reprising his role in 2004. He said goodbye to the character earlier this year amid news Neighbours was axed.

However last month the bombshell announcement of the show's return was made after Fremantle managed to find a new broadcast partner.

The revamped soap will return to its former home Channel 10, and US and UK fans will be available to stream it for free on Amazon Freevee.

Australian and New Zealand fans will also be able to stream the show ad-free on Prime Video, one week after the free-to-air viewing on Channel 10.
