Jennifer Lopez Had the Best Reaction When Told Her Age Is "Getting Up There"
She handled it like a pro.
Jennifer Lopez is a press veteran with a decades-long career under her belt, but even she was left momentarily flustered when an interviewer unexpectedly brought up that she was aging during a recent sit-down. In a Sunday, December 15 chat with Variety, editor Clayton Davis remarked that the Unstoppable actress was “getting up there” in age–and Lopez managed to turn the awkward faux pas into a bonding moment with her fans.
In a video obtained by TMZ, the journalist started off their conversation talking about one of the actress’s most iconic roles. “Listen, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena,” he said, continuing, “I can’t believe that in 30 years we’re going to do the retrospective of this and you will be 60 by then.”
As the audience reacted, he added, “which is getting up there." Despite the comment about her age, Lopez remained neutral and nodded as she answered, “I am.”
David then segued into talking about Lopez’s latest film Unstoppable, calling it “one of your best performances,” but the star wasn’t done addressing his comment.
“It’s funny you think that I’m getting up there,” she responded, and the editor quickly clarified that the comment was “a joke.” However, the ever-poised Lopez appeared to brush off the remark by using it as an opportunity to address her fans.
Turning her body away towards the audience, she said, “It’s because I want to say thank you, you guys. Because we’ve been doing this a long time together. Been doing it a long time and you guys have been here with me.”
Lopez revealed she’d had her own walk down memory lane that very day, singing her first song “If You Had My Love,” which was released in 1999, along with some new tracks.
“I honestly feel that the best is yet to come,” she continued as she reflected on “what a journey” it had been. “I honestly feel that my creativity and who I am as an artist—like you said, I also feel that this for me, was another kind of level for me of going deeper into who I am as a person, as an artist.”
Lopez previously opened up about feeling sexier with age, telling Elle in a 2023 cover story, “As you get older and you have more experience, you become a richer human being, and you have more to offer. The idea of ‘There’s nothing really valuable about watching a woman over 30’ is so ridiculous, it’s the opposite of right. It just makes me laugh.”
She added, “People have realized that women just get sexier as they get older. They get more learned and more rich with character. All of that is very beautiful and attractive, and not just physically, but on the inside, the beauty that you gain as you get older, the wisdom you gain.”
