Surprising task Aussies can't stop asking their home device to do: 'Four times more likely'
Aussie customers are obsessed with one specific feature of the Amazon Alexa.
From Taylor Swift’s height to Donald Trump’s age, Australians were asking plenty of questions in 2024. Amazon has announced this year’s ‘Alexa’s Most Asked Questions’ revealing exactly what customers have been relying on their virtual assistant to answer.
Amongst all of the celebrity queries, a lot of people have been requesting that Alexa insult them. In fact, Amazon’s data reveals that Aussies are four times more likely to ask Alexa to insult them than to ask to be complimented.

What exactly does Alexa say when asked to give an insult, you ask? Well, I took it upon myself to be completely slandered by the home device and here’s what it said:
Of all the Christmas ornaments, you’d be painted penne pasta
Everyone you know asked Santa for earplugs… you do the math
If you were a Christmas bauble, you’d be placed at the back of the tree
Is that you singing carols, or a small child playing the recorder?
You’ve been on Santa’s naughty list so long your lump of coal is a diamond
Ouch.
Interestingly, the ‘insult me’ Alexa experience was built by the Australian team and then replicated worldwide. The Aussie team also created Alexa’s drag name generator as an Australian experience for Mardi Gras.
Other popular Alexa requests from Aussies this year include ‘beatbox’, ‘play a banger’ and ‘do something silly’, which includes a collection of self-pranks, silly news and impressions.

What else were people asking Alexa in 2024?
Aside from the insults and jokes, the most asked-about celebrity in Australia was Taylor Swift, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Elon Musk and Eminem.
The Fortnight hitmaker also topped the list of celebrities Aussies were asking about their height and age, while her 2014 hit Shake It Off was the most played song and The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology was the most played album via Alexa and Amazon Music.
