Jennie Talks ‘Ruby,’ Marion Cotillard on ‘The Morning Show’ at Chanel
While the house of Chanel is in a holding pattern anticipating the arrival of newly appointed artistic director Matthieu Blazy, Tuesday’s couture show still brought brand fans and faces to the front row.
Blackpink’s Jennie, G-Dragon, Kylie Jenner and Marion Cotillard were among the A-list that made the morning show for a collection keen on colorful pastels.

Surprisingly, it was actually the first couture show for Jennie, who has been with the house since 2017.
“I was very excited to come to my first couture show. And I think the double Cs Chanel runway was so impressive, and the way they played with colors,” she said.
The K-pop star was referencing the runway, which looked like a grand arch from the floor, but revealed itself to be two intertwining Cs, mimicking the brand’s legendary logo when viewed from above.
Jennie has been on a creative tear with her solo projects, releasing “Mantra” and “Zen,” and dropping “Love Hangover” this week before her full album “Ruby” in March.
“It’s been overwhelming. And you know, I’m just on the road until my album is coming [out]. So everything has been a great journey, and I’m excited for more to come,” she said.
The cinematic music video for “Zen” features several striking looks, and Jennie took a creative lead on the concept with director Cho Gi-Seok.
“We had lots of time and meetings, and everyone put their thoughts into how all the sets and the music, and the visuals could be flowing at the same time,” she said of the process. “So we created different characters for each set, and I think it came out very beautifully. I’m so happy.”
The drips of singles drops were strategically planned, to create an overarching story for the album. “Everything is so different [and] we’re trying to make the pieces go well with each other. So when the album comes, the story is there for people to understand,” she said.
But everything else about “Ruby” is a bit under wraps, for now. “There’s gonna be different sounds, something that you guys have never heard,” she said.
With the fashion shows, plus album release, plus prepping for her first solo concerts, how does she stay zen?
“I’m working very hard right now, [so] my honest answer is, looking back at my ‘Zen’ video puts me back in my zen. It motivates me and it keeps me on the road,” she said.
K-pop star G-Dragon is known for his bold sense of style, and his love of Chanel jackets. He has “almost” a closet full of the brand, with a particular focus on vintage.
“I just like the style, their history. And there’s so many feelings,” he said about his impressive collection.
G-Dragon has been in Paris for a week, to perform at the Pièces Jaunes charity concert that took place Jan. 23. “It was fantastic,” he said. The Big Bang rapper got to meet French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, and took a snapshot with them that has been shared around the world.
“It was such an honor, showing a lot of love for us, and I hope to see him and all of you guys soon,” he added.
Dua Lipa made her first appearance at a Chanel show, and went for a dramatic black cape look for the morning.
“I was just drawn to the drama, but I love the big bow. I loved the detailing. I thought it was just so fun. It’s something I don’t get to do very often in terms of, like, a styling thing. It’s quite romantic and I love the adventure.”
She also liked the romantic turns on the catwalk took, citing a buttery yellow silk gown and a red sequined dress. The more traditional looks too.
“I could really see myself in all the tweeds,” she said, noting that she usually opts for casual items with a statement piece, such as a coat or a big bag to polish up her look.
While music stars dominated the morning, longtime brand ambassador Marion Cotillard made her first show back at the Grand Palais since it was reopened last fall.
The French star just wrapped “The Morning Show,” joining season four with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
“It was very different from a movie. It was unusual for me to work like this with different directors and the dynamic is very different. But I loved it because I love doing new things, and I was working with the rest of the cast,” she said.
It was a bit of a learning curve for the Oscar winner, she said.
“When you’re not used to working in a certain way, and you work with amazing people, the crew and the cast, you learn a lot about yourself. You learn because you’re not in your comfort zone, and as soon as you get out of your comfort zone, I mean, you better learn,” she joked.
Cotillard was in a black knit minidress with layers of gold and leather jewelry, which seemed to be an edgier look than her usual style.
“Is it? Maybe I’m tougher than I look,” she said. She spotted a white dress with a black belt and corset as the look from the runway she wants for her closet, while the spectacular lavender cape also made an impression. “It’s a real piece of art,” she said, but confessed she wouldn’t know where it to wear it.
Pamela Anderson has been making the most of Paris Fashion Week, hitting up a handful of shows. It follows her Golden Globes nomination and the overall critical praise for her “The Last Showgirl” role.
What does she hope this renaissance can say to other women? “There’s just many chapters, and to embrace them. Reinvention is the key to eternal youth,” she said. “It’s never too late to start again or pick up where you left off. I’m happy that I’m experiencing that and so challenging myself.”
Next up is “The Naked Gun” reboot costarring Liam Neeson. “It’s been a great year. I’m just enjoying the moment.”
Golden Globes winner Fernanda Torres was also enjoying the moment, after a long promotion period for the film “I’m Still Here.” She has a week of vacation after the Chanel show, she said, and then on to the Oscars, where she is nominated in the best actress category.
The film’s recognition is “mission accomplished,” she said.
“Because it’s a delicate, small movie, so I never expected this,” she said of the Portuguese-language film making its mark in the U.S. “It’s a miracle.”
“It’s good, too, that this is happening now that I’m 59 years old, because you are mature, so you are able to, for instance, receive the Golden Globe without collapsing,” she joked. “What I’m enjoying is that I’m mature now so I can enjoy it, but with all my senses.”
