Jason Winer To Direct & Exec Produce Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson’s Brothers Comedy Series At Apple

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy and DGA Award winner Jason Winer (Modern Family) has been tapped to direct and executive produce Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s untitled brothers comedy series for Apple TV+ from Skydance Television.

This marks Winer’s first non-20th Television TV project as director-producer. He had been at the now-Disney-owned studio for about two decades, since the start of his directing career, under a string of overall deals that have come to an end.

Apple’s untitled 10-episode half-hour comedy reunites Harrelson and McConaughey, who play heightened versions of themselves in a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful sibling-like bond. Matthew and Woody’s close friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.

Winer will direct multiple episodes, including the pilot.

David West Read serves as showrunner on the untitled comedy, which he executive produces with McConaughey, Harrelson and Winer, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television and Bill Bost and Jeremy Plager.

Winer most recently executive produced and directed Disney+/20th TV series The Santa Clauses. Known for his work on Modern Family, Winer directed the pilot and more than 20 episodes of the hit ABC series, earning multiple Emmy nominations, and served as producing director. He also directed the pilot of ABC’s Don’t Trust the B*** in Apartment 23; co-created, directed and executive produced NBC’s 1600 Penn; and directed the pilots for CBS’ The Crazy Ones and Life in Pieces, serving as director on both series. He also executive produced ABC’s single-camera comedy Single Parents and NBC’s Perfect Harmony. He has projects in development at FX, Hulu, Apple and Netflix through his Small Dog Production Picture Company. Winer is repped by CAA, Mosaic, and Yorn Levine Barnes.
