Home and Away cast praise surprise Logies nominee: 'Thrilled'
The Logie nominations were announced early this week, with popular television drama Home and Away receiving six. There was one surprising nominee in the group, with newcomer Matt Evans up for the Graham Kennedy Award, Most Popular New Talent.
Ada Nicodemou plays his aunt Leah on the soap, and she couldn’t be more proud, sharing a photo of the two on the Home and Away set.
Alongside the photo, she wrote: “From the moment Matt came onto the show he has put in so much time and effort into making every scene as perfect as it could be.
“I’m so thrilled that he’s received a Logies nomination, it’s so well deserved,” she finished.
Matt said he was ‘shook’ by the news, and shared a TikTok video of the moment he found out. “Some crazy news this morning,” he wrote. “I got nominated for a Logie! What is going on?!”
His fellow cast mates were quick to flood his social media with congratulations, with Georgie Parker saying “You bloody BEAUTY”, while Emily Symons added, “YAY! Congratulations Matt, well done.”

Kirsty Marillier, Kawakawa Fox-Reo, Patrick O’Connor and Lukas Radovich also congratulated the star, saying that the nomination was the ‘best news ever’, and calling him ‘talented’.
The actor joined the show late last year after pursuing a music career. He spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle about how he discovered his passion for acting.
“I have always been a musician since high school, and studied a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at WAAAPA in Western Australia,” he said.
“I went on to audition and be a part of The Voice Season 9, and it was at that point where music was all I wanted to do.”
The star explained how he’s rapidly found a love and interest for acting since being on the show, but is excited that he’s bringing music to Summer Bay.
Last week, it was revealed that Matt’s character loves to play guitar and sing when he serenaded Sam Barrett, who plays his love interest Chloe.
“To combine both of these worlds is a dream come true,” he noted.
“I feel very lucky.”
