She recently spent a few days Down Under doing a series of live shows, but it appears Drew Barrymore might be returning to Australia very soon. An insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the Hollywood actress-turned-TV host enjoyed a business meeting with her longtime friend Terri Irwin last week where they discussed plans to bring her popular talk show The Drew Barrymore Show to Australia next year.

The 50 First Dates star, who recently headlined wellness brand Wanderlust's ‘True North’ events in Sydney and Brisbane alongside a series of special guests including Terri, Dannii Minogue, Tones and I, G Flip and Emma Watkins, flew into the Sunshine Coast on a private jet last Tuesday to spend just a couple of hours with the conservationist.

“Drew made Terri a priority in her Australian itinerary and they caught up in Beerwah, close to Australia Zoo,” a source close to Terri tells us. “The two have a long-standing friendship and the opportunity to finally see Terri on her home soil was an invitation a long time in the making.”

According to our insider, Drew openly discussed her plans to bring The Drew Barrymore Show to Australia next year during her meeting with Terri. It would seem Terri is keen to play a pivotal role in making Drew the next Oprah Winfrey and that involves her coming back to Australia to film a string of episodes similar to what ‘The Queen of Daytime TV’ did over a decade ago.

Back in 2010, Oprah brought 302 audience members on a seven-night trip to Australia to film four special episodes of her talk show, appropriately titled Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure. Ellen Degeneres then mirrored this in 2013, surprising 400 audience members with a seven-night, 4-star hotel stay in Sydney or Melbourne.

The opportunity to follow in Oprah and Ellen’s footsteps and bring The Drew Barrymore Show to Australia would cement Drew’s crown as the new 'Queen of Daytime' around the world, something many thought she couldn’t do when she first launched her show in 2020.

Our insider says Drew also held a meeting with some of Terri’s connections at Tourism Australia last week, which would be “an amazing opportunity to showcase our country’s post-COVID world and bring in some lucrative US dollars”.

“Drew and Terri share a known passion for the natural world and the conservation of our animals,” the source adds. “The partnering would see Australia Zoo heavily involved and the women are delighted to have a project to work on together.”
