'Hazbin Hotel' Reveals Its Hellish Big Bad of Season 2

It’s soon going to be a happy day in Hell once again. After the launch of Hazbin Hotel Season 1 on Prime Video this past January, Vivienne Medrano's R-rated musical comedy became one of the platform's biggest hits all year. It has reached record-breaking numbers for the streamer, becoming their largest global debut for a new animated title.

The road to Season 1 was quite the journey for Hazbin. Medrano's pilot was originally uploaded on YouTube back in 2019 and slowly built buzz through a grassroots campaign to get the series greenlit. The musical animated series then released an additional eight episodes five years later on Prime Video.

Now Season 2 is officially underway, but it's going to take awhile before fans can check back into the hotel. Here is everything you need to know about the devilish and delightful Prime Video series, including burning fan questions regarding Hazbin Hotel Season 2.

Has Hazbin Hotel be renewed for Season 2?

Yes! Prime Video ordered a second season of Hazbin Hotel before the first season even began airing. They dropped the news of a two-season order back on Sept. 28, 2023.

What is the release date for Hazbin Hotel Season 2?

We don’t know how long it’ll be for Hazbin to arrive. But it won’t be longer than the wait for Season 1 to drop. Medrano told Screenrant, “Roughly, Season 1 took about one-and-a-half, two years. So I think it's probably similar, just because we are in the early stages. However, that's not nearly as long of a wait [as the wait between the Pilot's release and Season 1]." Compared to the five-year wait for the first season, 18 months seems pretty quick.

What happened in Hazbin Hotel Season 1?

In Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel, Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen), the princess of Hell, is tired of seeing her citizens of Hell get slain by homicidal angels from Heaven. Due to Hell's overpopulation, a terrible tradition called "The Extermination" allows angels to periodically murder sinners. To depopulate Hell and thus stop Exterminations from happening, Charlie opens the Hazbin Hotel, aimed to rehabilitate sinners in the hope that those lost souls can get to Heaven. Her first clients are a drug-addicted adult movie star named Angel Dust (Blake Roman) and a silly snakeskin supervillain named Sir Pentious (Alex Brightman).

With the aid of her staff—her girlfriend Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), disgruntled bartender Husk (Keith David), homicidal housekeeper Niffty (Kimiko Glenn) and her powerful and mysterious radio-demon producer Alistor (Amir Talai)—Charlie endeavors to garner the support of others in the face of an imminent Extermination. She tries getting help from her absentminded dad, Lucifer (Jeremy Jordan), the king of Hell who has given up on sinners and Adam (also Alex Brightman), the antagonistic angel in charge of the Extermination brigade, but to no avail.

As the extermination commences, Charlie rallies some citizens and her staff to fight back. In the final fight, Adam kills Pentious before Lucifer arrives in the nick of time to protect his daughter. With their combined force, the inhabitants of Hell manage to kill Adam, but only after he destroys the Hazbin Hotel.

In the end, the staff begin to remodel the hell, and Pentious’ selfless sacrifice actually gets him sent to Heaven, proving that Charlie’s service works.

Oh, and did we mention there are musical numbers throughout?

What will Hazbin Hotel Season 2 be about?

Hazbin Season 2 will expand on the world-building from the first season. In an interview with Collider, Medrano said, “I feel like Season 2 grows in really exciting ways that I’m personally enjoying a lot ... We are more able to build some things up that could lead to bigger payoffs later down the line. Just in general, we learned so much on a technical level making the first season that going into the second season we feel a lot more like, ‘Yeah, let’s do this.’”

Beyond that, we don't have many details regarding the plot of Season 2.

What stage is Hazbin Hotel Season 2 in right now?

Animation takes a long time to produce, but the last we heard, the series was in the storyboarding process, and the voice acting had been recorded. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con, fans of Hazbin Hotel were treated to an animatic sneak peek at S2 and a scene between Charlie and a new Hazbin resident named Baxter. However, the animation is far from complete.

Who will be the villain of Hazbin Hotel Season 2?

Hazbin Hotel has several villainous overlords that surround Hell, but now its been confirmed that the Vees—Vox (Christian Borle) the one-man TV media mogul, fashionista Velvette (Lilli Cooper), and adult business owner Valentino (Joel Perez)—are the central big bads of Season 2. Medrano told Screenrant, "Season 2 we get more presence, I think, in Hell because what's nice about Season 2's antagonist is that he's a Hell character. That's Vox. So I think we get more of a focus on that world because he's also an overlord.”

Who composed the music for Hazbin Hotel?

Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg are the duo of songwriters for Hazbin Hotel, and they will be returning as songwriters for Season 2, along with composers Evan Alderete and Gooseworx.

How many songs will be featured in Hazbin Hotel Season 2?

Hazbin Hotel Season 1 featured a whopping 16 songs over the course of its eight episodes. While there will also be eight episodes in Season 2, there is going to be even more music featured. What do we know about the songs in Hazbin Hotel Season 2?

There are going to be more solo songs included in Hazbin Hotel's second season, as well as genre-bending duet numbers. Henningsen revealed, "There was a song that Sam and Andrew wrote for me that is very different because it's a really fun, sexy song between Charlie and Vaggie. We haven't really seen Charlie live in the total pop world yet."

During a New York Comic Con Panel, Medrano revealed that Niffty will be getting her own song. Niffty’s voice actress, Kimiko Green, who was also in attendance, shared, “The song is a fucking doozy. It’s super fucking fast, it’s so crazy. It took a lot of rehearsing for me to learn it.”

There has not been any official teasers or footage for the series. However, Prime Video did release a video of Erika Henningsen recording her lines for Season 2.
