Yahoo Lifestyle Ella Purnell gives update on Sweetpea season 2

If you're anything like us, you will have kicked off your spooky season in October this year by binging new show Sweetpea, and if you're also like us, you'll be wondering will the show be coming back for a season two?
Sweetpea is a six-part series based on CJ Skuse's novel series of the same name and stars Ella Purnell as Rhiannon, who initially appears to be a quiet mousy girl constantly ignored by those around her. However as the series goes on, Rhiannon finds a rather unusual (read: murderous) way to grow in confidence and make sure no one will ever ignore her again.
The series ended on a pretty big cliff-hanger, so will it be coming back for a second season? Here's what we know so far.
Has Sweetpea season 2 been confirmed?
Yes! On 3rd December 2024, the show's lead and exectiveu producer Ella Purnell took to Instagram to share the exciting news that Sweetpea season two is officially happening.
In a video shared by Ella and Sky, Ella shared her appreciation for the fans love of the show and revealed a second season is offiicaly happening.
She said: "Hi everyone, it’s Ella here. I just wanted to say thank you guys so much for watching Sweetpea and for all of your reactions and responses. It’s been so amazing to hear how much you guys like the show and we really appreciate it. I wanted to be the first person to tell you some very exciting news, which is that Sweetpea will be coming for a second series! Very exciting! So, I can’t wait for you guys to see what we’ve been cooking up, stay tuned!"

What would happen in Sweetpea season 2?
Sweetpea season one ended on a major cliffhanger, with Rhiannon stabbing AJ to death after he discovers she is the murderer the police have been searching for, not Marcus as she and Julia had them believe.
As Rhiannon is hugging AJ's dying body, her sister Seren enters the house and there's no indication as to what happens next. Would Seren turn her sister in? Or would she help her cover up her crimes? Given what we know about Seren it's likely she'd call the police herself and get Rhiannon locked up for life.
Right now we've been given no information on what will happen in season two, but we're guessing it could explore what would happen after Seren enters the house. There's also the possibility Rhiannon would kill her sister too.
We also know Julia has jetted off to escape from Rhiannon by using her bank card, so maybe the second season could see Julia return and the pair face off again.
Who will be in Sweetpea season 2?
Well firstly it wouldn't be Sweetpea without her so it's no surprise that Ella Purnell will reprise her role as Rhiannon.
We're also expecting to see Alexandra Dowling return as Seren, Jon Pointing as Craig, Leah Harvey as Marina, and Jeremy Swift as Norman. We'd also hope that Nicôle Lecky would return as Julia. Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Given how many characters were killed on screen this series there's a lot of people that wouldn't be able to come back including Calam Lynch as AJ, Dustin Demri-Burns as Jeff and Dino Kelly as Marcus.
