WARNING: Spoilers lie ahead

First it was a Starbucks cup, then it was a scorned doggo, now Game of Thrones fans are seething over an oversight to end all oversights.

What, they are wondering, has happened to Kings Landing?

Arguably the central geographical point of the show, King’s Landing is home to the titular Iron Throne, and is the focal point of the season’s final episodes.

It seems King’s Landing has been surreptitiously re-cast however, and fans are not happy.

During the show’s latest episode Daenerys’ contingent approach the gates of King’s Landing to negotiate a peace deal with Cersei and co. and lose fan favourite Missandei in the process.

It wasn’t the head-chopping that had fans doing a double take however, it was the depiction of the capital which seems to have moved from a beautiful, lush, ocean-side local, into a barren desert overnight.

Interesting, the show might boast dragons and walking dead people, but it’s the first time teleportation has featured.

Fans are understandable frustrated with the last minute re-casting, taking to Reddit to share their feelings.

“So we're gonna ignore the fact that Kings Landing changed overnight?” an irate fan posted.

“Deforestation is a serious issue in Westeros,” joked another.

“It doesn’t make sense,” seethed another.

Others argued the land might have been cleared in anticipation of battle, but no explanation has been forthcoming for the loss of mountains.

It’s not the first time Game of Thrones has made a slight slip up, notably last episode also featured a cameo from the 21st century; a Starbucks coffee cup.

Former king-contender Stannis Baratheon was also guilty of a gaffe.

He was caught sitting on a laptop charger way back in season five, right before he was killed.

The show’s recent episodes have come under fire from fans not just over the editing gaffes, but also over storylines that have been labelled ‘inconsistent’.

Episode five hit’s aussie screens next Monday at 11am.
