Erin Molan speaks out after sheer dress sparks fierce debate online

The radio host's controversial birthday outfit has been criticised on social media.

Erin Molan has responded to the negative comments she received on social media after she posted a photo of herself wearing a sheer dress to celebrate her birthday.

The snap, which was shared on Instagram over the weekend, shows the 40-year-old wearing a sheer gathered asymmetric dress that exposes her undergarments.

While a majority of Erin’s followers praised her racy outfit, saying she looks “stunning”, “beautiful” and “amazing”, others argued it was too “revealing”.

“You’re better than this Erin,” one person wrote, followed by another who added, “Far too smart, talented and beautiful to need to wear this”.

“Give a little to the imagination, you don’t have to show it! Little disappointed,” a third replied, while someone else wrote, “Have a bit of self respect girl”.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Monday morning, Erin said she was both “blown away” and “so confused” by the reaction to her dress.

She also spoke openly about the backlash on 2DAY FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin with her co-host Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes.

“Why does what I wear or a dress that I wear in any way let someone else down or detract from the kind of person I am?” she remarked.

“If it's people who like me because of the work I've done in the social media space or the anti-bullying or because of the charity work or my show on Sky [News] where I do national security topics and politics, why?”

What does Erin's boyfriend think of her dress?

Hughesy then said that “the only opinion that should matter is your loved one”, and asked what her boyfriend thought of her outfit.

“Okay, he said you can see everything,” she admitted with a laugh.

“He’s quite conservative. He thinks that it’s beautiful, he thinks I’m beautiful, but he would much rather me wear a habit.”

Erin recently hit out against criticism that she dresses “inappropriately” for her age and argued that there is a “negative attitude” towards women in their 40s or older.

“I get comments like, ‘Are you trying to look young?’” she said on-air last month. “No sorry, I wear what I feel like, what I feel good in, what makes me feel amazing in a world that’s constantly trying to make all of us feel completely [s**t] about ourselves.

“So, wear what you want, dress how you want. if you look amazing, great. If you look not so amazing, great! If you feel amazing, great! Who cares? Stop the judgement!”
