Emma Stone Debuts a Pixie Cut at the 2025 Golden Globes
Emma Stone turned heads on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet with a new hairstyle. The actor, who starred in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness in 2024, is rumored to have shaved her head for the director’s next film Bugonia, which will be released on November 7, 2025. She paired her new hairdo with a radiant red Louis Vuitton gown.
In the past, other actresses have turned to the pixie cut after shaving their heads for a film. Anne Hathaway, for example, donned the hairstyle when she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Fantine in Les Misérables, perhaps providing a good omen for Emma. Emma also is no stranger to hair transformations, previously rocking a black and white bob as the titular character in Cruella and going blonde for The Amazing Spider-Man.
The pixie cut and color was done by her longtime hair stylist and OLAPLEX Ambassador Tracey Cunningham. “It’s like Mia Farrow. She basically has no hair,” Cunningham says over email. “It’s super short, and she’s going to have it cut again, so it’ll be even shorter.”
Bugonia continues Emma's recent run with Yorgos Lanthimos, having just won last year’s Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Kinds of Kindness was a quick follow-up with the filmmaker, which only has one nomination at the Golden Globes this evening for Jesse Plemons, who is nominated Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy. Emma also appeared in Yorgos' The Favourite with Olivia Colman, for which Olivia won the Oscar as well. Emma's first Academy Award came from her performance in La La Land as Mia Dolan.
Other than Bugonia, Emma is set to appear in Ari Aster’s next A24 film Eddington, a contemporary Western about a New Mexico sheriff. Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Austin Butler also round out the stacked cast. Ari previously directed horror films Hereditary and Midsommar. Time will tell whether Emma's pixie makes an appearance in that film too.
