The actress says she hopes her character will have the opportunity to become "more complex"
Warning: This story contains spoilers from Emily in Paris season 4, part 1.
Sylvie Grateau is getting her revenge, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu couldn't be more thrilled.
While discussing the latest installment of Emily in Paris with PEOPLE exclusively, the French actress, 61, recalls the moment she learned that her character Sylvie would finally be vindicated.
In season 4, part 1, Sylvie exposes Louis de Leon, a ruthless businessman and head of luxury fashion conglomerate JVMA, for his problematic behavior and sexual harrassment in the workplace. Sylvie, who worked closely with Louis for many years before heading her own PR firm, comes forward with the help of a French journalist who breaks the story.
"I was really happy that we were getting into this little revenge moment for Sylvie," Leroy-Beaulieu tells PEOPLE. "I was excited that [creator Darren Star] had this idea of writing about this because it's an important message."
Now that Sylvie has conquered this demon, the actress says she hopes her character will have the opportunity to become "more complex, more complex, more complex."
"Darren is so surprising. Every time people ask me that, I'm like, 'Oh, well I can hope for whatever, but he's going to always surprise us,'" she explains. "So what I like is that he's going towards layering even more and more. So I'm really happy about that. That's all I want."
The fourth installment of the series picks up after the “dramatic events of Camille (Camille Razat) and Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) misbegotten wedding,” according to an official synopsis.
“Emily (Lily Collins) is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s (Lucien Laviscount) worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups,” the synopsis reads.
