Elijah Wood Candidly Drops Big Relationship News

Elijah Wood shared a huge relationship update while casually chatting during a recent podcast appearance.

The Lord of the Rings star apparently tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, film producer Mette-Marie Kongsved, per marriage license records reviewed by TMZ. The publication reported the marriage on Thursday, Feb. 6, nearly one month after Wood was heard referring to his “wife” while on the Inside of You podcast.

The couple filed a confidential marriage license, according to TMZ, so the exact date on which they were married was unclear. The couple first took their relationship public in 2018 and have two young children together.

The 44-year-old actor spoke of his family near the end of his episode of Inside of You, which was released on Jan. 7. He was responding to a question about what he feels most grateful for when he mentioned his mother, children and partner.

“The list is endless,” Wood said as he considered the question. He could be seen shaking his head as he pondered his answer in the video recording that the podcast posted on YouTube.

“My gratitude runs deep,” he began. “I wouldn’t be the person that I am without my mom. I’m beyond grateful for my family and my kids, and my wife. They are such an extension of me. They are the most important people in my life.”

After his casual reference to his “wife” and family, the Wilfred actor added that he is also “so grateful for my collective experiences that have led me to where I am now, that have shaped the human that I am—and have shaped me as a creative person.”

While Wood experienced tremendous fame after playing Frodo in the Peter Jackson-directed film trilogy, he reminded podcast host Michael Rosenbaum that it took a while to find fame in his acting career—which he now considers to be a good thing.

"I was lucky enough to not have a lot of success very quickly,” he said. “So I wasn’t successful overnight. Which I think is a dangerous kind of combination. For those who have overnight success and are suddenly a household name, oftentimes they don’t have the tools to know how to process it or deal with it.”

In Wood’s case, he “had some experience to draw upon” when the box office smash arrived in theaters.

"It wasn’t, like, a shock to my system,” he said of his Lord of the Rings fame. "It was new. It was bigger and broader. But I had some tools to know how to process it.”
