Dream Home winners Rhys and Liam have spoken out about their co-stars Taeler and Elle’s controversial edit on the renovation reality series. The sisters from Victoria, who finished in third place during Tuesday night’s nail-biting finale, were labelled as this season’s “villains” and were accused by fans of being “mean”, “selfish” and “disrespectful” throughout the show.

While Rhys and Liam tell Yahoo Lifestyle they have a good relationship with Taeler and Elle, they admit that their on-screen portrayal wasn’t too different from what they were like in real life.

“I think outside of the competition, Taeler and Ellie were great people,” Liam shares. “I just think they were very competitive. And being so competitive I think they just went about things a little bit wrong and it was shown on TV and I think a lot of Australia just noticed that that's not what this show is about.

“We've got nothing against those girls. I think they're great people as well off-screen, so it was a hard one. I think everyone was competitive, but I think they were just overly competitive.”

Liam went on to say that even though it's been a few months since the show finished filming, a majority of the cast has stayed in contact.

“I think everyone still talks. We're in a large WhatsApp group and we all just kind of talk about the show and life after the show and stuff like that. So we all still chat,” he details. “There’s always people that are less involved in those chats than others, but yeah, everyone still stays in communication somewhat.”

Not only did Rhys and Liam walk away from the show with their own Dream Home, but they also received $100,000 to pay off their mortgage. The brothers tell Yahoo Lifestyle that the experience was much tougher than they could’ve anticipated but they wouldn’t change a thing.

“There was a lot of work, there was a lot of stress, a lot of thinking about something day in, day out. It didn't feel like you got a break the whole time you're on the show, so to be finished has been awesome,” Rhys reflects.

“All that hard work and to know that I got a Dream Home and we managed to get Rhys that $100k was amazing,” Liam adds. “To know what we achieved in other people's houses as well was quite special and seeing how much joy that brought to other couples and their families. It was a cool experience.”

The boys add that one of the highlights in their journey was getting to use smart tech and appliances from LG Electronics to elevate their renovations.

The tech company partnered with Channel Seven to fit out each of the six homes on the show with LG products, including LG InstaView refrigerators with the ‘knock knock’ feature that lets users view inside the fridge by knocking on the glass door, and the LG WashTower which automatically selects the ideal wash cycle based on the wash load weight.

“It was definitely one of the biggest talking points with every single layout chat that we had on the show with all the other couples,” Rhys recalls. “People were thinking about where you can use those products in the house at the best locations and also whether you can see the TV from this room or that room or how it can communicate with the rest of the LG items in the house.

“It was really cool. They've thought about a lot of innovation in all their technology and it’s pretty leading edge. I think on my next build I'll definitely be incorporating LG through the house.”
