Disney World Is Permanently Closing This Fan-Favorite Restaurant—Here's What's Happening

After a long tenure as a fan-favorite attraction dating back to 1991, the Jim Henson MuppetVision 3D experience at Disney World will be coming to an end. Fans have until June 7 to get in their last moments of joy before Monsters, Inc. Land moves in and changes up the entire vibe. Those who don’t live nearby just might want to put a little pep in their step, especially if you once enjoyed snagging a quick meal at PizzeRizzo.

"The new land will include the coaster we've all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show," Disney states in a blog post shared online.

To make room for the incoming pack of monsters, Disney’s Grand Avenue is set to begin closing retailers in phases, starting with Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in May. MuppetVision 3D will follow next, along with PizzeRizzo, while June 7 is set to be the final day that fans can experience either location.

According to Disney, however, “the Muppet foolishness doesn’t stop there.” Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more are expected to be moving “right along to Sunset Boulevard,” where the Muppets will be “taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

The real bummer is for those who will miss grabbing a hot pie from PizzeRizzo, as it garnered loads of reviews speaking highly of its exceptionally good pizza.

“This is where we ALWAYS go for lunch. The price is right and it is actually very good pizza. It's one of the only counter service restaurants that still allow you to get a free refill. When you pay $5.29 for your soda, you should absolutely positively get at least 1 free refill! There is lots of seating available,” noted one satisfied customer.

As of now, it is unclear if PizzeRizzo will make a return appearance somewhere else in the park, and fans are likely to miss the spots' affordable prices and nod to NYC pizza culture. The brand's website acknowledges the impending June 7 closure while also encouraging customers to continue to “stop on by for pizza, a meatball sub or antipasto salad at this friendly neighborhood joint run by Rizzo, the wise-cracking Muppet." We are positive that while PizzeRizzo might not live on in its current form, customers are likely hoping for a decent replacement.
