Did Cynthia Erivo Debut an Engagement Ring at the 2025 Grammy Awards?
Her jewelry placement sparked some speculation about her and Lena Waithe's relationship.
Cynthia Erivo has been defying gravity over the past couple of months following the release of Wicked, but is she also floating on cloud nine because of a recent update in her love life? Fans of the actress wondered if Erivo and her girlfriend, Lena Waithe, took the next step in their relationship, thanks to a jewelry moment that she had at the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2.
Social media couldn't stop wondering if Erivo and Waithe are engaged due to the presence of what appeared to be an engagement ring on the 38-year-old's ring finger. A source tells InStyle that she is not wearing an engagement ring; all of Erivo's jewels were loaners save for one ring. The source also noted that she can only wear rings on certain fingers because of the jewels in her manicure.
She accessorized her long and ornate manicure with a double stack of rings on her left hand, and wore an oversize marquise cut ring on her right pointer finger. Fans took to X to ponder Erivo's relationship status.

So, are Erivo and Waithe engaged? According to People, the Wicked star is not engaged. "All of Erivo’s Grammys jewelry—save for one ring—was loaned, and she can only wear the accessories on certain fingers because of the adornments on her nails," an insider told the outlet.
Don't expect Erivo to say much on the matter, either—while speaking with Vanity Fair in November, she explained that she’s “very tight-lipped with my relationships, ’cause I don’t think that my relationship is for anyone else but for me.”
"I spend so much of my life sharing everything—whether it’s my work or my soul or my life in speeches,” Erivo continued. “I think I give enough of myself that I’m allowed to keep something for me. And who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind at some point. But, I think it’s okay. It’s enough for people to know that I’m a queer person who could have relationships with men or women or neither.”
