Conan O'Brien Suffers Devastating Back-to-Back Family Losses
Conan O'Brien is mourning the loss of both of his parents this week after they died just days apart from one another in their Brookline, Mass., home.
The TV personality's father, Dr. Thomas F. O’Brien, died at home on Monday, Dec. 9. Dr. O'Brien, who was 95, was one of the first to alert the world to the danger posed by antimicrobial resistance, according to The Boston Globe.

He completed a fellowship in immunology and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, according to his obituary, before serving as the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at what would become Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. He also served as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School.
His mother, Ruth Reardon O’Brien, then died on Thursday, Dec. 12. Her obituary shares that she died "peacefully."
Ruth was one of just four women in her Yale law school class, where she was elected vice president of the student government. She became the second female partner at the law firm Ropes & Gray.
In addition to Conan, the couple is survived by his five brothers and sisters and nine grandchildren. A joint funeral is set to be held locally on Wednesday morning.
In lieu of flowers, fans can make donations in memory of Ruth to Vassar College's Office of Advancement and donations in memory of Dr. O'Brien to the College of the Holy Cross or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
