Cody Simpson's AFL grand final performance gives viewers 'goosebumps': 'Best I've heard'

Aussie fans have praised Cody Simpson for his national anthem performance at the AFL grand final on Saturday. Some viewers went so far as to say the singer-turned-swimmer gave them "goosebumps" with his rendition of the anthem.

While Katy Perry might have divided with her performance, it's clear people loved Cody's. Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on the 27-year-old's performance, with one user writing, "WOW @CodySimpson you gave me goosebumps! Now THAT’S how you sing a National Anthem!!"

"Very nice performance - one of the best I've heard in recent times and great accompaniment," another said.

"I forgot Cody Simpson can REALLY sing," a third said.

"Cody Simpson, great choice for the national anthem," a fourth added.

"Best anthem performance in years," someone else said.

"One of the best versions of the anthem that I’ve heard! 👏," yet another said.

Some also called for Cody to return again next year, with one user writing, "Get him back next year, excellent."

"Give the man a 10 year contract," another said.

"AMAZING!! Please sing our anthem in every major event!!!" a third excitedly added.

"Cody Simpson can come back he was amazing..." someone else agreed.

'One of the greatest honours'

Cody announced he would be performing the national anthem earlier this month, taking to social media to share the big news.

"I’m stoked to have been asked to sing the biggest National Anthem of the year at the @afl Grand Final," he said. "It’s a special and timely opportunity for me to step back on stage after my sporting career. As an Australian, it’s one of the greatest honours and I hope I can deliver something that everyone can sing along to and share in the pride to be a member of this beautiful country."

After unfortunately failing to qualify for this year's Olympics, Cody announced he would be returning to his singing career, which he put on hold while pursuing his sporting dreams.
