Chris Brown tipped to replace Sunrise's Kochie: 'No secret'

The celebrity vet is eyeing up Kochie's job on Sunrise.

Former Channel 10 media personality Chris Brown made waves last week when his move to rival network Channel 7 was announced. The vet is known for hosting I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and was a regular panellist on The Project.

Now, an insider has revealed that his shock career decision could be part of a long-term plan. According to New Idea, the Bondi Vet star has his eye on Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s job.

“Chris would be wanting the ‘holy grail’ of plum roles — which has to be Kochie’s Sunrise gig!” the source said.

“Chris could become fill-in host until the time comes to make it permanent. Can you imagine how great he and Nat [Barr] would be together on screen?!”

Kochie has been hosting Sunrise for over 20 years, and although fans have been calling for his exit, he signed a new deal last year.

Seven’s CEO James Warburton convinced the star to stick around until the end of 2024, but the star negotiated ‘greater flexibility’ as part of his new deal.

New Idea also reported that Chris was unhappy at Channel 10 as he wanted to move away from light entertainment and reality TV.

“He has made no secret he’s always fancied himself as a serious news journo and wants to be more than just a pretty face. The Sunrise format is right up his street,” the insider told the publication.

“He put it to Network 10’s bosses, prior to quitting, that he wanted his own nightly news show, but they only ever saw him as a safe set of hands in the light entertainment category, and a TV vet at best.”

Fans urge Seven to replace Kochie and Nat

This comes after fans begged producers to replace Kochie and Nat with fill-in hosts Monique Wright and Mark Beretta.

The bubbly pair were considered ‘hilarious’ over the summer break, and viewers were disappointed when their hosting duties were over.

“Think Nat and Kochie need to go, the fill-ins were much better, more laughs, more fun all round. Everyone is saying it, Channel Seven needs to listen, I’ll only be watching weekends now,” one fan wrote on social media.

“I enjoyed the fill-ins, more spontaneous and natural,” another added.

“Bring back Mon! She is such a fun and genuine host, really enjoyed her over the holiday break. Time for a fresh new cast for Sunrise,” a third remarked.
