‘Bad Monkey’ Star Charlotte Lawrence’s New York Fashion Week Photo Diary

Charlotte Lawrence was everywhere this New York Fashion Week. The 24-year-old musician performed at parties for LuisaViaRoma and Moda Operandi, sat in the front row at Proenza Schouler, Simkhai, Khaite, Tory Burch and Michael Kors and attended the Net-a-porter party and Frame dinner.

“I loved all my looks,” she said of the week’s wardrobe. “I loved my Khaite look a lot. I felt really sexy, but also kind of tomboy and chic. It was low-waisted leather pants with a little blazer that we just buttoned at the top. I just felt really cool in it.”

“Sexy” was also the vibe of her Tory Burch look, a “completely sheer black dress,” and the dress she wore to Simkhai.

“I got to wear a dress that wasn’t even out yet and just fit me like a glove,” she said. “I’ve been very lucky. The brands have been very, very kind to me.”

Khaite and Tory Burch had two of her favorite soundtracks.

“I love when brands step out of the box and do something different, and they both had kind of cool rock music and it was so fun to watch, and I feel like it almost made the models have a little swing in their step and have an edgy kind of vibe to them,” Lawrence says. “In regard to clothes, I would wear every single thing off the runway from Khaite, from Kors, from Tory.”

The musician has also recently made her TV debut, with a role in the Apple TV series “Bad Monkey.” She reunited her with costar Jodie Turner-Smith at the Tory Burch show.

“I have not seen her for a while. She is, first of all, so f–king good in ‘Bad Monkey.’ She’s so terrifying. I’m watching ‘Bad Monkey’ along with the rest of the world, and I’m just obsessed with it. I was telling Jodie [at Tory Burch] ‘dude, you’re so sweet and kind and gentle in real life, and on the show, you’re a f–king cold-hearted, scary motherf–ker,’” Lawrence says.

As for her performances at the two parties, Lawrence says fashion events are welcoming of her mixing it up.

“I feel like I can experiment and do fun covers and just add a new life to whatever songs I’m playing. Fashion events can sometimes be tricky because as a goer of fashion events, you go to a fashion event to talk to people and meet new people and schmooze. So it’s sometimes hard being a performer because you understand that these people might not necessarily be here for you, but you still want to give them a good show and command their attention in any way you can,” she says. “So I tried my best and it ended up being really, really fun. At both [LuisaViaRoma and Moda Operandi] I was like ‘hey guys, I’m literally here for 15 minutes. I’m in and f–king out. If I can have your attention for one second, and then I promise you, you can talk and whatever you want. And they giggled and it went well. I just think you got to be upfront with what you want.”
